The smallest real "Ghettoblaster" of the world ?

hifitom - 2010-07-29 06:37

Hello

After a long search (about 4 years) I found the micro boombox I felt in love the first time I saw it. It's built 1984, very compact and got a 2-way-speaker system. I got a few walkmans with built in speakers, but not this kind of.

It's from the german company "Nordmende" - the main thing they sold was TV's. But they also produced a few bboxes - the big once where Sanyo's, but badged as Nordmende. The biggest unit they produced was a JVC, not shure what kind of ...

It should arrive in the next few days - can't wait till the first soundcheck ...

Best wishes
TOM

- Who own such a "Mini-Boombox"?
- Is this a Sanyo?

mrp32dave - 2010-07-29 09:26

It does look a lot like this Sanyo M-S 200F, which has a carry handle like a box.

Beautiful...I have my doubts about it having 4 functional speakers, though.

This is quite a small Sanyo.
Its scaled down in size still looks like a boomer.
Its sitting on a VCR, you see the size of the VHS tape door.
Maybe I get it if its still there.
Auto revers too hmmmm.

That would be a das nërdblaster not a ghettoblaster Wink. Very cool indeed. somehow it reminds me of Sharp GF-8. I would like to buy one.

here is my panny -
which is likely the same small size

pocket radios Big Grin

Thanks for your feedbacks and photos

The broshure says that it got a two-way-speaker system with separat bass-speakers ... so if it's a Sanyo it couldn't be a bad sounding unit. I don't know how this Pany sounds, just can tell you that there must be fans for these micro-bboxes - I saw this Pany changes his owner (ebay) for almost 100,- Euros Red Face

By the way: I think the small Sanyo's (like the M-S350) sound better than their big units ...

Keep you updated with the first sound inpressions ...

Love that black mini Sanyo.
Here's a pic of my Sanyo Mini. A good contender for smallest ghettoblaster. Has a carry handle, and a telescopic antenna which I think should be qualifiers for a boombox. And certainly a winner for smallest ghettoblaster with double cassette! Nod Yes

reli - 2010-07-30 09:53

Wow, does it use the same motor for both tape drives?

lasonic.trc920 - 2010-07-30 18:20

These are really cool, would love to have that Nordmende!

Pocket Blasters....sounds like something out of Star Wars

milosancho - 2010-07-30 18:57

The red Sanyo mini - 2 tape drives, 2 motors.

hifitom - 2010-07-31 05:25

Hello

The Nordmende arrived today. But not in the condition (very good) as the guy told me - ever ***** is filled with dirt (looks like it was lying in milk ...) - and this is the good news!

The bad news is, the left speaker don't work, the tape makes a lot of noise when you push the play button ...

I wrote the seller but he didn't react till now - I hate things like that ... Mad

Amazing!
First time I've seen this Sanyo - it's a bit like that WM-W800 Sony double-cassette walkman:

I like that, a lot. Shame about the Fisher Price styling.

Giving this further thought I suppose we have to specify the distinction between a ghetto blaster and a walkman with a speaker. Personally I'd argue that a ghetto blaster is a portable radio cassette that can play cassettes under it's own power through a speaker or speakers that the human ear can tolerate for a prolonged period. I have a lot of radio walkmans with an internal speaker which really is only for for playback with the main listening method being headphones. It's when the onus is on playback via internal speakers rather than headphones that these walkman's become ghetto blasters (I guess).

I'd therefore suggest the Aiwa CS-M1 as a serious contender...

Maybe the HS-J14 for proper sized cassettes'''

Or maybe this Sanyo for an 'acceptable' listening experience.

transwave5000 - 2010-08-05 00:27

That Sanyo was still there , got it for 10$ .
Here its beside a recent cassette tape find.

mrp32dave - 2010-08-05 01:43

I have this beautiful little Aiwa CS-350L very small and very high quality, still looks new.

l.lopez - 2010-08-06 19:33
