im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-09 11:22

A GF9191XE ? i met a guy a while ago,he said he had a Sharp 9191 he wanted to sell,he was a chinese fella in his 50s,he said he bought it brand new..i bought it off him, needed a bit of TLC,its pretty much working again now..
i just looked at the back of it,the model is GF9191XE,Has anyone of you got one of these or hurd of this model ?? i have never hurd of XE...

lav.loo - 2010-07-09 11:26

i have never heard of XE either G,MAN, is it any different than the standard 9191?? if it is, would it be poss to stick some pics up cos i love the 9191 Wink

im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-09 11:29

i've had a few 9191s over the years lav,and this is no different,i cant see anything different at all,but i think this is a none Uk model, the guy never said what country he bought it from, but he did say he travelled the world alot with his job...

lav.loo - 2010-07-09 11:37

that,s strange, it must be like you say a foreign model, maybe made for the asian market, with the guy being chinese maybe, anyway i hope someone can shed some light on this one cos now im curious too Nod Yes Wink

im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-09 14:59

Damm,i've just f*cked it up,i have'nt used the 9191,i fixed it,but when i fired it up,the volume was dirty, had static,so i gave it a bit of switch cleaner, now the channel has gone really quiet, when stuff like this happends, its no longer a hobby,it becomes a nightmare, things going wrong that you can do without !

mrp32dave - 2010-07-09 15:10

That sucks, I had a similar thing with my 9191 the treble slider had static a squirt of switch cleaner that slider has never worked since, took it apart a few times none the wiser?
Seen a few 9191x but never an XE, the difference from the 9191e, the x has line in line out rca's instead of a 5 pin din I believe, what yours got?

im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-09 15:19

well mate, this 9191 has done nothing but give me trouble since i got it..i changed the belts, fitted a new capstan rubber to fix the play, now this happened, its time to get rid mi thinks..had enough of it...

Paul all these 9191's etc have the same crappy slider switches as the m70 lad, to be honest i wouldnt touch one with a bardge pole.

Just ask stormin normin how much trouble he has with m70 sliders mate, basically you have to rebuild the whole switch man.

lav.loo - 2010-07-09 16:17

i hate to spoil the party here guys Nod Yes but iv,e never had a spot of trouble with my 9191 No No i love it, i think it,s a quality box Big Grin

- 2010-07-09 16:34

Your not spoiling the party lav Smile It's just me I dont like any box with the cassette deck controls on top....

I could be wrong about the sliders on these sharps but I suspect there very similar to the ones on the m70... funnily enough the m80 has the same kinda controls but I hope there made of better quality construct...

lav.loo - 2010-07-09 17:04

i must admit boomer im not a massive fan of top slider controls, but i do love the 9191.
the m80 controls should be cool cos their front sliders so that makes them less prone to getting crap inside.
hey i wish you would,nt keep talking about that m80, it,s making me miss it Big Grin Wink

- 2010-07-09 17:14

If it's any consolation lav I miss your sanyo 920 the most lad, funny thing is I hardly ever used it but what a beutiful machine..... wanna m80 for it Laugh Out Loud

im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-09 17:20

i will offer a carl lewis jogging machine,a giant road atlas of great britain, and i still have the full set of readers digest encyclopedia's,fair swap...

The 9191 is one of the best-looking boxes, but I wasn't too impressed with the sound of the one I had. My TPR-950 and RX-5500 sounded way better.

I believe you're supposed to use a special kind of cleaner for sliders, because they use carbon trace contacts, instead of real metal contacts. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-10 03:24

Reli, the stuff i've got is the right stuff mate,i've used it before on sliders and its worked every time,i think this 9191 slider must have been on its way out..i fixed it last night,i took a slider off a scrap 9090 i had, seems to be ok again now..
Ahh yes and i agree with you on sound, they sound ok at low volue, but when you start giving it some power,it crapps out, mainly because the bass speakers wont take heavy bass..still a solid little box though..i just must have a bad one..

driptip - 2010-07-10 09:21

very interesting guys! i never had a 9090, 9191, or 9292.
and i always thought they were made as good as the 9696.
