Things you regret

samsnite - 2010-08-27 10:39

I have a couple of things that come to mind:

- lending my 9191 to my mate never to get it back
- passing by a rather big silver Crown for 10 euros. At that time i thought Crown was a crappy brand (it was the time before s2g and serious collecting)

bredgeo - 2010-08-27 10:47

not having started collecting sooner...

And mostly having sold my original GF 9191 to a friend. Finding out a good 20 years (if not more) later that she still had it... I was ready to buy it back from her... the 9191 was at her brother's house (the brother had passed away 6 months earlier)... the wife was still in the house, and through the 9191 away!!!!!

FUuCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frown

litfan - 2010-08-29 14:10

Getting shot of my silver toshiba bombeat 40 Confused Find, another, if you can.

redbenjoe - 2010-08-29 14:20

rich -- WHY are these so impossible to find ??
its a great model -that should have sold extremely
well --
do you guess that toshiba made just a few dozen for 'promotional' sales ??
or what

litfan - 2010-08-29 14:35

Don`t know ira. I sent a pic of it to that boombox place in japan. He had never seen one like it. Black, like yours, yes, but, this one uh uh.

redbenjoe - 2010-08-29 15:01

ok rich --since none of us seem to know about these Confused
lets just assume that is was a limited production
item --and never made it to the major retail markets -
also - member blasterpunk has a gorgeous SILVER
JVC RC 550 !!
might have been a 'one-off' example ?? Smile

litfan - 2010-08-29 15:03

Maybe ira, maybe. I don`t have it anymore, damn.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-08-29 16:23

...Mono I see you have an addition to your collection. How do you like the 920?

mellymelsr - 2010-08-29 22:54

In a way I regret not having the cash in the 80's to buy all the grails I currently own. But at 12 I don't think I would have appreciated them nearly as much as I do now. I loved the little Panny 5150 I had back then but I appreciate the ones I have now. So I feel everything happened the way it was supposed to.

I can't really say... It's in great physical condition and still has the covers for the RCA plugs on the top back, but it needs internal work 'cause there's not much sound in the right speakers, the radio doesn't work and the belts for the cassette deck are shot. I'll put it in the shop in a few weeks, but until then, it's just a great looking box for display - not for play. Frown

ao - 2010-08-30 02:34

I regret throwing my first Walkman away (Sanyo M-G1) because it had a broken belt...I was young and dumb(er).

retro - 2010-08-30 06:06

I regret throwing away my boxes when I was younger and not getting them repaired. I also wished that I had saved the original cartons.

daiwa - 2010-09-02 10:21

Great shot Blaster! And speaking of that "king 'o Blasters" Drip, that would be my only regret, as much as I love my first box, Aiwa CS600, the big Conion w/the alarm that I saw in the Mission back in the day, well, that got me interested in blasters, but I couldn't afford it then, and I defo can't afford one now! How I wish I would'a bought one new tho...

jameswp67, I know something else you'll regret, unless you own more than one M90...

peter.griffin - 2010-09-16 07:41

Leaving my original M90 in an ex-girlfriends, friends place in the early 90's.

samsnite - 2010-09-16 11:46

OUCH! That gotta hurt!

supersonic - 2010-09-17 06:38

Getting too drunk one day about a month ago.
Did not buy a perfect silver gf-8989 then. 15€
Had even original stickers.
Played it awhile at the fleamarket. And just walked away.

Remember also seeing some super jumbos at fleamarkets
when i was not collecting. 10 years ago.
I think they are all scrap by now.
Really rare species in Finland!
(as all boxes, because of this so called " recycling ").

richard.heijnen - 2010-09-19 12:27

I really regret dating me last girlfriend.... men, what a *****..

O you mean "things you regret about boomboxes"?

Well.. not buying more of them when they were new, and easily available..

The chinese stuff they sell now (them "eggs") are soooo ugly...

unfortunately yes my old fashioned parents were a bit strict with me growing up different generations and taste of music but i use to listen to my radio late at night to record stuff off the radio so id wear headphones of course...
...i to had sneak out the house with my conion at times...moms was always worried when i did leave the house with box (which i dont blame her today)but i was always with my posse of friends never alone with the box...because in those days they kill you for box and sneakers and clothes....the 80s was rough at times....

I regret letting my M70 go. I wish I would've kept that one. Now I am debating letting my M9998 go. I KNOW this will be a regret as well but I am kinda thinking I might not have much of a choice.

Ouch thats really gonna hurt, but i think there is ALWAYS a choise...

tim - 2015-08-10 01:11

I know this is a very old thread, but just thought I'd post this here to get it off my chest!

I first started collecting when I was about 10 years old (10 years ago now). My Dad bought me a JVC PC-3 which he saw for sale in a local shop for £12.00! It was the first propper ghetto blaster I had owned and I loved it! The problem was, it soon became clear that the JVC was suffering from very poor, distorted sound from the speakers, which i Now know is comern for these models. I still carried on using it for a while, but could only put it on low volume otherwise the sound would be horrible! One strange thing that happened was, one evening when I came home, I went to use the JVC and the volume nob was missing! I never found it! The strange thing was that no-one had been at home, and it was definitely there when I had gone out!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, in the end I disconnected the speaker boxes and, thinking they couldn't be repaired, I chucked them out!!! Then, I gave the amp section to a friend to use in his hi-fi separates, but I did get it bback a while later, can't remember why exactly. Anyway, by that time I think I was regretting throwing out the speaker boxes, but knew I couldn't reverse what I'd done, so in the end, I chucked the rest of the machine out as well!!

Oh, the things you do when you're young and foolish!

michiel - 2015-08-10 03:21

You are not the only one making the mistake of throwing the speakers out because of rotten foams. I see many component boxes without the speakers. Even worse; component boxes with woofers replaced by car speakers But the good news is; you can still buy boomboxes on ebay for instance

tim - 2015-08-10 05:15

Thanks Michiel! That's definitely true, boxes are still to be found on ebay, I just really don't like the idea that I wasted one!

blufuz - 2015-08-10 07:15

The only regrets that stick with me about this hobby are some of the people I have delt with over the years that collect. There are some serious whack jobs. I have done thousands of transactions over the years through the internet and the worst were related to BBX forums.

Other than that, its all good.

litfan - 2015-08-10 11:08

Letting radiohier blag my champagne bb40 off me. Wouldn't happen now. He caught me, as ,I was recovering from brain surgery.
