best ever memorable find.

ok guys, today i had my boxes out to give them a bit of a blast as i do regularly to keep them ticking.
whilst i was going through them i was thinking about where i scored them all from and it was kind of taking me back a little.
this thread is about your most special find so il,e start with mine, actually there,s 2 finds that really stick out for me.
firstly it would be my very first box that i scored after months of searching high and low, yes as always it was my philips d8614 Big Grin which i scored at a local second hand shop after trying allover their was one sat on my doorstep.
i remember seeing it through the shop window sat ontop of an old wardrobe, i could,nt believe my eyes Eek finally my first box, and it will always be a special memory to me, i bought it for £15 in top condition and fully working Smile
secondly, my next special/memorable find would be a pioneer sk909L that i scored at a carboot a few years back.
i remember seeing the back of it from about 20/30 yards away and thinking to myself, that looks familiar.
on approaching the box and getting more excited, i was 100% sure it was going to be the box i was after for a long time, was i right? yes i was, the pioneer sk909L in all it,s glory sat there waiting for me Big Grin
straight away i asked the seller how much for that box, he replied a tenner Eek i thought that was a great score and passed him the cash before he changed he,s mind, i remember him saying to me, what do you see in these old radios their crap Laugh Out Loud
well i thought you keep on thinking like that and guys like me will always get a great deal Big Grin
so there you have it, my most special/memorable finds, it just does,nt happen anymore so i think that,s the reason for these finds being so special to me.
yes i have had other great finds paying even less than the above two, but there,s nothing like finding your first box, and also one you have wanted for a long time Wink

my first was a sharp gf-555............it was in an old junk shop on the way into town....i looked at it and apart from a few paint spots it was 9 out of 10......i told the guy that i might be back in later.....i didnt go back.....following saturday i went and it was still there....i took a chance at a tenner and it was mine........got it home and tape 1 never worked.....stripped it down to find the oily goo as usual on sharps......took the idler wheel out, turned it back over and id taken the wrong one out.....so that left me with tape 1 and 2 not working......im in the sh@t now i said......anyway after tearing my hair out and not wanting it to go to the big electric grave in the sky i made some idler wheel rubbers and its now fully working and very much alive..........ill treasure it forever or unless someone offers me £50 for it..........sorry 555.....you gotta go sometime

As a kid i was crazy about this box:

I only knew it from a brochure, never seen one "in the wild".
My parents gave me a Philips 8614 instead (Sony was quit expensive) and i was (and still am...) very pleased with the 8614.

Last 10 years i have been searching for the Sony on fleamarkets and car-bootsales, and on Marktplaats.nl, the dutch equalivent of Ebay.

And i found one!!
Almost 30 years old, and in mint condition!

Sound quality is a bit "flat" the philips sounds much better.
But the Sony is soooo beautifull......

I have 2 stories like you Lav.

First my M90. It was in a online classified 2 years ago for 50bucks. I offered him 50. he accepted. But then I didn't hear from him for 3 days. Thought for sure he sold to someone else. Then he emails me on the fourth day saying, "you still want this, I was out of town". Needless to say, I drove to his house right away and grabbed it.

Second my JVC-PC550. We were driving home from a week of fishing. My friend following behind me. We passed by a garage sale. I immediately pulled over. I ran to the garage sale, guy had a fully working PC-550, for 50 bucks. offered him 40. DealSmile My friend was like, "how the hell did you see that". I saw the shiny speaker chrome, I had to pull overSmile
