Hoarders?

peter.griffin - 2010-11-04 07:55

ok, so here is my attempt at posting moreSmile

Are we boombox collectors borderline hoarders? I think it's something we may be afraid to admit. Seems like we have the symptoms. We don't want to throw any of our precious boomboxes away. And in some cases they "clutter" our homes. About a year ago I threw away about 10 boomboxes to remove the clutter. So now I'm down to about 20 boomboxes. I don't intend on getting anymore. But I know some people never stop. So what do you think?

lav.loo - 2010-11-04 08:00

good topic PG, ye i think it is hoarding in some sense, but there's hoarding for the sake of it, and there's hoarding for the love of it, me im not really guilty here, i only have 6 boxes, and although i have had almost 65/70 boxes in my 5 yrs of collecting, i have never had more than about 10 at any given time Big Grin Bopping

fresh.produce - 2010-11-04 08:06

Hahaha I don't think its a sickness Its more of a lifestyle.....but I just say that 2 make me feel better Big Grin

samsnite - 2010-11-04 08:14

I admit im a hoarder/collector of (to me) interesting stuff. It kinda scares me that i dont see my house being filled with stuff. But once in a while i "wake up" and just have to clean up my place. But i rarely throw out stuff. They might come in handy someday... Razz

My radio/audiostuff count at this time: i honestly dont know... probably over 100

My computer/videogame count: dont know that either... perhaps 70? And hundreds and hundreds of games... aww man

l.lopez - 2010-11-04 10:47

EekI guess I'm a hoarder, I have about 70 boomboxes at home and not mentioning the one I have in my 2 storages, So I need to thin down big time. Nod Yes I really try to sell but the hardest part is which one is going next, So when I see that these are keepers I turn to my storage. smiley peaking

jvc.floyd - 2010-11-04 11:06

i don't consider myself a hoarder but i can't stand to see boxes go to waste ,i have a tendency to collect boxes that would otherwise be considered trash because of their condition ,dont get me wrong i have a very nice collection of minty boxes but i also love saving the train wreck boxes a lot of satisfaction putting life back into something that has no hope except for me saving it from the dumpster mind you i only save cool boxes not modern junk.

davebush - 2010-11-04 14:56

i had a great idea one day.....i said to myself (and the Mrs) that i would only collect the sony fh series and sell all my others to pay for them lol! who am i kidding....i just love the things and other old audio bits and bobs too......iv run out of room in my office where i keep my best ones and the loft is full of my others ....but if i get any more, there just gonna have to go into the loft as well which i hate cos i like them on display.....but on that note, my fh series is getting better...i now have fh5...4 x fh7`s fh9 fh10 fh15R fh204 need an fh3 with handle now...anyone...swapsies

lav.loo - 2010-11-04 15:53

hey DAVE that reminds me Big Grin i was in blackpool the other week visiting family, and i called in a few second hand shops, i can't remember the name of the shop but there was a mint fh10 sat in there on a shelf.
it had a sold sticker on it so i asked the guy how much it had sold for, he told me £50 Eek
bit steep for a seconds shop but from what i hear it was probably worth it.
i was a bit gutted, i fancied a pop at it but there you go.
it was'nt you that bought it by any chance was it Big Grin Wink

teamstress - 2010-11-04 15:58

There is a difference though. Cluttering your home and having them displayed on crowded shelves=collector. Or stuffing them in every nook and cranny all haphazardly like,(cough) someone we know=hoarder.

We've probably all seen news stories where they go in to someone's house and it's full of stacks of newspapers and other junk and they can barely walk through the place.

Then there's the person with the biggest collection of something that's all organized and clean.
I'd say I'm closer to that second example, well for now anyways!

retro - 2010-11-04 16:04

Razz I do keep them sealed in plastic if that makes a difference.

lav.loo - 2010-11-04 16:08

that makes you a tidy hoarder RETRO Laugh Out Loud Wink

Be happy in the knowledge that a collection grows quickly to overfill all the available space and if you know how many boxes you have you haven't got enough.

walkgirl - 2010-11-05 08:59

I only do hoard walkmans and other stuff Big Grin Smile

baddboybill - 2010-11-05 10:30

I would say to hoard something is to have it but hide it... Now if you store the boxes in a closet or unit then you are a hoarder but if you display it you are a collector Big Grin

bendycat - 2010-11-05 11:00

I have too many and will have to sort some out soon - grand cleance soon new here (but not the big 10)

mellymelsr - 2010-11-05 11:35

I look at it like this...as long as I have space in my home to store them neatly it's not hoarding, is it? I only have 25 radios and only plan on adding about 10 more. I could be accused of hoarding shoes though...I currently have over 200 pair, but they fit neatly into a custom closet...so that's not hoarding, right??... Angel

davebush - 2010-11-06 00:17

hey mel.....200 pairs...no mate thats not hoarding....thats crazy lol!

bendycat - 2010-11-06 07:29

I got a loft to do out - but i don't know how to do it cos if i put them all on one wall then there gonna bring it down jaw drop wife won't be pleased

i just need a big room - one end all on the wall boxes and the other end all the bmxs and parts - heaven Bopping

retro.addict - 2010-11-06 09:10

I probably am a hoarder. I collect all types of stuff, not just boomboxes or electronics.

matrixambience - 2010-11-06 11:50

I was a boombox hoarder, but now I am not. Back in 2003 till about 2008, I had over 20 boomboxes, 10 of which were the SAME model! I had 10 Panasonic RX-5050's! I now have as of 11/6/10 : (1) Panasonic RX-5080 , (3) JVC RC-M70 , (1) Panasonic RX-DS30 , (1) Panasonic RX-DS45 , (1) Panasonic RX-DT707. I am selling the DS30 soon. My wife uses the 707 for working out.

nevone - 2010-11-08 02:08

well, can you resist the temptation to pass a good box? Will the next man treat it with as much respect as you do? Or it will just use it when painting the house?
