Boombox Exhibition finally happened!!

rambo.estrada - 2008-05-30 01:05

Hey guys, I haven't had time to be on the boards for a while as I've been working on my exhibition.

Finally last night we had the opening at my friends store

This was the flyer

I took a bunch of shots before anyone arrived, it was great to see most of my boxes all displayed together.

We even managed to get a beer sponsor for the night

On the left you can see the TV. I had different clips featuring boomboxes playing 4 up at the same time.

Thanks to all members who helped contribute photos

rambo.estrada - 2008-05-30 01:15

It was a fun night, a bunch of people turned up, well all drunk way too much beer and listened to 80's hiphop Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Mantronix, MC Shy D, Run DMC, Sugar Hill Gang etc.

Everyone had an awesome time.

Ha ha, it was funny. The guys would come in and go straight to the beer, the girls would come in and go straight to the clothes.

beatbox - 2008-05-30 03:30

Very well done Hamish. That looks like a great success, and you all seem to have had a great opening night. How long you gonna leave them there?

baby.boomer - 2008-05-30 03:40

Stunning... you should be very proud! Most of us never get a venue for displaying what we've spent so much time and energy collecting. It must really be satisfying! Big Grin

Hope you were able to protect those grails from prying hands! Wink

enskanker - 2008-05-30 05:56

H, U done goot.

gluecifer - 2008-05-30 06:20

Thats absoloutely awesome. It's like walking into a dream I keep having... but all the tags in front of them have prices on them in that.

Very impressive, it's now the number 1 tourist attraction in NZ in my book.

Rock On.

WOW,thats great! Very cool idea. Nod Yes Wink

fatdog - 2008-05-30 07:19

You have to be brave to put that many high-quality boxes in a public place. I'd be worried about the punk, thugs walking off with them, or at least parts of them.

But, it looks like everything worked out and everyone had a great time. Congratulations!

ao - 2008-05-30 07:55

Oh lordy, this is amazing. I hope you drew up a robust indemnity insurance for this

I was thinking the same thing, brave indeed. Nod Yes

Awesome nonetheless and certainly would be dream to walk into a shop like that these days. None of my local electronic shops were any where near that cool back in the day.

oldskool69 - 2008-05-30 08:54

That looks wicked Rambo! Great to see the collection like that - the shop looks pretty cool too.

thafuzz - 2008-05-30 13:34

Super cool store. I would do it the same way. Very catchy theme for the store. I'm just curious to know how many people made offers to buy the boxes and your highest one (make/model). Certainly the Disco drew the most attention. Maybe that Disco should face the outside of the store front for attention.

r.o.y.a.l - 2008-05-30 14:08

retro.addict - 2008-05-31 06:00

WOW, what a show!! Eek I'd be in that shop most of the day looking at all the boomboxes. Cool Did you get a lot of people coming in for a look and asking questions?

When do you get them to the safety of your house again?

daiwa - 2008-05-31 06:35

Really excellent displays Rambo! All I can say is "what clothes?" Big Grin

Completely and totally fantastic!!!

rambo.estrada - 2008-06-01 23:19

Hey guys, thanks for all your comments. It would have been awesome if some stereo2go members could have come along, but it's pretty lonely here in NZ!

I only left all the boxes in the store for a couple of days. There was a rumor of a bunch of hoods planning a break in and I wasn't sure if my insurance would cover it, so I got a little nervous. There are still about 8 boxes in there on display at the moment.

I got asked a bunch of questions, mostly "which one is your favorite?", "how much are they worth?" and "where did you get them all?"

There are a bunch of photos up on the ThanksĀ® blog. Check them out here

weylandyutani - 2008-06-02 14:33

Well I would love to have been able to come down and see these fine boxes in the flesh but i became a dad on the weekend so needs must i guess.LOL Nice job though. Eek

redbenjoe - 2008-06-02 15:15

hey rambo --no matter how great all the boxes are --no surprise that the disco-lite gets the most attention -- right ??

- 2008-06-02 15:20

Cheerz rambo profesinal photos as usual thanks fo sharing, i would have loved to see the boxes in the flesh like us all, i that place looked better kitted out than a shop in the 80's.

ford93 - 2008-06-02 17:33

I give it two snaps and a circle! Cool

isolator42 - 2008-06-04 08:54

Absolutely cracking, rambo, you must feel justifiably proud Smile

Did you have any of the b-boxes working (using an FM transmitter or similar)?

What would be the point of breaking in? Those morons wouldn't know what to do with the b-boxes & offloading that lot would be a bit obvious in NZ, surely?

...oh & some nice young laydeez there too. You lucky begger Smile

outthere72 - 2008-06-04 09:35

Fantastic to see all those boxes out together, especially with the ID tags...A job well done mate!

fuzzyduck - 2008-06-05 12:43
