Fisher's Rock! IMHO!

jaredscottfla - 2008-05-27 20:13

Smile The Jimski Ph410 arrival is my 4th Fisher.
I have to say they all rock,!
I now enjoy the 410,420,460 and 490.
Alot of fuss recently re: the 492,it looks very much identical to my 490K.

Have not gotten or seen the mini's,and the 90's Fishers look Fugly to me anyway! Razz
Of all four fishers i have now,I'd say the 420K
is prob in the worst shape,The other 3 Are nice, not minty but nice.
The Tuners are an absolute Pleasure on FM stereo on these Fishers,Am and Sw are mediocre Though. Cass players Do their Job Well!
Anyone else share my Enthusiam For Fisher,or NOT? Wink

The PH-410 is a really nice looking box for sure!It looks quality like the 460.Personally I have a PH-460,a PH-463,and a PH-w-405 which I found at a thriftstore the other day.The 460 is definitely in my top 5 favorite sounding boxes of my collection over all.Simply amazing! It's ridiculously heavy and well built also.I'd love to get a 480 or 490 someday!

The build quality of the 463 and w-405 are noticeably cheaper.Of course these are in a different slightly smaller class from the 460.From the distinct quality difference I'm also assuming they are a generation later than my 460(maybe someone knows for sure)? Also making them different is their dual deck configurations. They will go fairly loud but without volume to spare like the 460.The bass from them, though decent,is also not overly abundant. These smaller units also have disc type tweeters instead of cones.Still I really like their sound alot!If you boost the highs all the way up they can become harsh but have a lot of presence (this certainly puts an exclamation point on guitar feedback! At the risk of sounding weird,I actually like this effect Roll Eyes )One thing I have noticed about theses two boxes is a nice presence in the upper bass (bass guitar for example)without EQ adjustment. Here are pictures of my latest Fisher find, the PH-w405 mentioned above:

As you can see in the last picture, someone must have not liked what was playing at some point. The metal grill was somehow severed.

Interestingly enough I also found the upper bass to be really nice on this Fisher egg I found at Goodwill. This leads me to believe that Fishers have a certain "sonic signature" and continued to care somewhat about quality even after the classic '80s period.Unfortunately the CD output crackles for some reason on this PH-DS60.I'd like to find another. To answer your question Jaredscottfla ,I guess I really do have a thing for fisher also Smile !
