Big massive Phillips with crosses on speakers.

beatbox - 2008-05-20 05:07

Does anybody have a pic of this, it is huge apparently and the speakers have what seems like a '+' or cross shape on the speakers.

Thanks!!!

Thanks Jens, but that isn't it.

It's a 3 piece model, and it really has very big cross shapes over both woofers.

Thanks anyway!

no , Frown Roll Eyes I Wink dunno...

beatbox - 2008-05-20 08:08

I was wrong!!!!! APOLOGIES!!!!!!

The crosses are not on the woofers, but on the tweeters!

It's the Philips D8644 apparently.

Here's a pic -

My next question is whether this is recommended by anyone. It certainly is big!

according to reports it sounds very good. big, heavy chunky radio, with wooden speakers i think

I wonder why Phillips didn't make the speakers "mirror images" of themselves? It's still a nice looking box. Smile

Well spotted! Eek I've never noticed that, even on previous images of the D8644. One thing did occur to me, cheapness. But surely being a 3-piece, the clips would have to be on different sides for left and right. Maybe they used the same front for both cabinets, but different housings for left and right?? Very confusing. Confused Big Grin

It is, but it also has that terrible handle that the D8534, D8634 and D8734 have. Our member Gettoman mentioned ages ago at the end of the page in this thread, that the handle snapped on his D8734 in the late '80s. The handle on my D8634 snapped last week. I've had to super glue it and it looks awful now. That's seems to be the only major flaw with these boxes, the cheap all-plastic handle. Very flimsy. Nod Yes
