What is your beachbox?

ez - 2008-05-14 02:23

A very similar thread to DM4U but I was wondering what boxes are we most prepared to sacrifice to the beach?

Even though our Summer (Australia) is months away I'm already thinking about what box I'm going to throw down and let rip at the beach. Only problem is it's going to have to withstand the harsh rays from the sun, abrasive sand and corrosive salt water Frown

What is your weapon of choice??? Cool

idontknow - 2008-05-14 02:29

Any box + plasic bag Wink

baby.boomer - 2008-05-14 03:26

No sand/sun/surf for my vintage boomers. Nope.

panasonic.fan - 2008-05-14 06:03

I think the beach is the quintessential location for a good looking, classic 1 piece boombox.

I usually take either the M9935K or my RX-5150.

I have taken my sharp 8989 or a box like that, i have also taken my kaboom.

Aiwa 955

Well i do have a lot of big guns..but lugging them around to the beach would be a hard task.

Call me weird, but i have the best feeling when i take a small to midsized one with small to mid-size sound..zapping the radio stations or play a fine tape.

When im at the beach, a sea or river nearby i do not want to have a big flashy loud box with great bass.

so i usually take my GF-6161 or Hitachi 3D8..And im on the lookout for a decent late 70's early 80's box like that superscope marantz one piecer.
That would be the perfect one!Cool

The most close beach is over 250 km away from here

Mine neither. No No I think too much of them. Nod Yes

I have to agree with rimmer, I would almost certainly use my 8989 as it's not in the best condition, plus it's a great looking box. I wouldn't be too bothered about a bit of weathering on it, I've been sick over it once before but that's another story!! Laugh Out Loud

oldskool69 - 2008-05-14 09:44

I have a small radio I carry to the beach. Noise restrictions and my kids bouncing around means I usually find a good FM station and let it go. Nod Yes

Salt kills speaker foam amongst other things and sand in my cassette mech?!?! Dread the thought. Eek

redbenjoe - 2008-05-14 09:46

any medium size classic i piece looks great at a beach setting -- but still, the salt, moisture atmosphere -- makes you need an extra copy of that box to preserve at home.

My Hitachi TRK9100,

Light, loud, robust, attractive, cheap as chips to replace if the need ever arose!

masterblaster84 - 2008-05-14 10:43

I have a decent RX-5250 that is already corroded from what looks like beach use so I wouldn't have a problem using it at the beach.

geoffhartwell - 2008-05-14 10:48

i take my makita work radio, its loud, bassy and can handle any abuse you throw at it, its even taken a tumble down some stairs and survived

redbenjoe - 2008-05-14 10:54

that makita looks cool -

is it a big battery sucker ?

it takes the same batteries as my makita cordless tools (18v rechargable) one fully charged battery will last all day (thats if the volume is high, 2 days if vol is a third up)

masterblaster84 - 2008-05-14 11:37

Dang Geoff that's a hard core beater box. It looks like you could beat the hell out of it and not break it. Using the Makita powertool battery is a great combo. Nod Yes

bredgeo - 2008-05-14 11:55

Beachbox??????......Hummm.... This could be a hard one, well.... actually not!

ANY egg! And if you want, just throw and throw and throw sand on it... until it cant be seen anymore, and let it play until it can't be heard anymore.... then, let the tide come in and finish it off! Hey, one less egg!

If not, any well protected Boombox. Protected with the good zip-up plastic bag (the type of plastic bag that you will get when buying a duvet) and a nice parasol!!!!!!!!!!

A silver GF 9191!

Nod Yes

henrytai - 2008-05-14 12:21

for me, vintage bbx are the only portable audio which i would bring to beach
eggs and those i-pod box are not my cup off tea Tap Toes.
maybe it's too much for the bbx,
but I'll be happier if i can blast my bbx on the beach Smile
I wish i can hv a GF9000 as my beach box

mrb - 2008-05-14 16:45

i bring my Conion C-100F no doubt some will be disappointed in this, but i usually take it out with me on my boat! yes! water! its great when it wants to work Smile

jlf - 2008-05-14 17:15

Believe it or not... NONE!

I only go to the beach to get away from the noise and think.

Which isnt often... only when Im in L.A. for work.

Northwest beaches are too cold!!!

EekShocking my friend, I wouldn't have guessed anybody would put their C-100F's in harms way like that. But it only has to work for you so enjoy and I hope you don't drop it in the water. Wink

I'm afraid so. (Please don't read any further if you don't like this sort of thing...) You know when you've eaten something that obviously doesn't agree with you? Well, it was one of those times when you just have to be sick and there's nothing you can do about it. I covered my mouth, turned my face away from the bed, but out it came, like niagra falls. I'd forgot my 8989 was on the floor and it bore the full brunt of my projectile vomiting!! Eek Big Grin It's cleaned up now, but I'll never forget that! Laugh Out Loud
