Sanyo M-9998

dan9998 - 2008-05-07 07:39

I have a Sanyo M-9998 that someone I know saw at my apartment and is really interested in. The cosmetics are perfect but the cassette doesn't work. He's adamant it's only worth $75 or less. Isn't it one of the top dogs? What would be a good offer to accept? Is anyone here interested? Thanks in advance.

ned.209 - 2008-05-07 08:05

its certainly worth more than 75. they go for about 200 on ebay. if hes just a guy you know i would charge him at least 100, maybe 125. if hes a friend 75 is grand though.

the M9998 is a highly regarded radio

Dan the 9998 in perfect cosmetics is worth more than $75. I know you could do better either on ebay or with one of us. I for one would be interested if you sell so if you want to sell then you should post it in the Ghettblasters & Boombox Parts For Sale section.

Good Luck! Smile

But for $200, is everything working, including the cassette? Granted, mine doesn't have a mark on it. It's not so much the value that worries me, but the way he's being a little forceful.

Well, I'm a recovering gadget addict and I've been assessing my need to keep all my electronics, piled up as they are. Maybe I'll all or nothing it and put them all up on the block. I don't even get the time to listen to them anymore. I also have:
Lasonic TRC-931
Lasonic TRC-931
Hitachi TRK-9900W
JVC DC-33 w/ TURNTABLE
JVC RC-M50JW
Citizen JTR-1322K - But of course I'll never part with it. I've had it since I was eight years old.

Hey Dan, check your PM. Smile

masterblaster84 - 2008-05-07 09:59

I hear you Dan, sometimes you just have to clean house for the sake of sanity. Wink

Sent you a PM.

Be warned, changing the belt on a 9998 is next to impossible. It's easier to mill a new flywheel from an ingot of steel.

ned.209 - 2008-05-07 10:44

if hes being an ass print out this page and shove it in his face Smile

oldskool69 - 2008-05-07 11:36

Yo Dan! Hey, don't worry if your asking a fair price and he doesn't bite forget it. If it's in good condition you'll do better by selling it to someone else. Oh yeah...check PM. Big Grin

Laugh Out Loud M9990 is about the same.

weylandyutani - 2008-05-07 12:38

Well hate to brag but my 9998 was free from a friends garage but I would say that was a one off. Mine even still has the dust covers on the phono and line in/out plugs. Roll EyesI think its worth more than that and the reason the other person is being forceful about it suggests that!!!!!

jameswp67 - 2008-05-07 13:07

I have one also that I bought very cheaply in the UK with a damaged deck, perfect aesthetics, and the original box and service manual! It cost $120 to get the deck fixed properly!Just missing the mics! Don't let anyone pressure you to sell cheaply! You decide what you want to do, a friend would not be pressuring you like that.

dan9998 - 2008-05-07 13:12

Well you guys sure are active and helpful. Thanks.
I have some PM's I'll look at shortly when I get the chance for anyone waiting.

For the record weyland/yutani, mine too has the dust caps. I was impressed when I saw all the inputs and outputs and the fact that the speaker guards had gone all those years without so much as a single dent.

Out of all the pieces listed is nobody impressed with the Citizen I have. I remember when I was a kid it was the heaviest loudest one, and almost the biggest. I used to have to prop it against my thigh to carry around (I was pretty short back then).

I suppose I might take some pictures later if anyone's interested. thanks

masterblaster84 - 2008-05-07 13:34

I'm not sure which Citizen model that is, I think I needs pics. Nod Yes

redbenjoe - 2008-05-07 14:30

dan - good pix of every box you decide to offer will be very important -- thanks

I Agree I Agree I Agree

ned.209 - 2008-05-07 18:35

is the Citizen a big silver one with a blue synthesizer written on the tape deck? - i particularly like that model

redbenjoe - 2008-05-07 19:35

NED - i like the looks of that one also --i think its a JTR-1292

bashngu - 2008-05-07 19:39

Yes, the JTR-1292 is the one with "Synthesizer" written on the deck door. The 1322 is a nice 3-piece.

Look below. Ive been trying to locate a 1292 for a long time. Nod Yes

have you ever heard one ? sort of looks like a sharp 9696 or one of those good sharps -
does it sound similar to those ?

No I never heard one. It looks like they put some effort into it so I would hope it has a quality sound but it could sound like dung for all I know. It looks pretty classy tho.

dan9998 - 2008-05-09 04:58

I didn't want to post 'til I had the pictures but I didn't get to yet, later today I'll do it for sure. I'll also answer any questions posed to me specifically. Sorry and thanks.
