vladi123456 - 2008-05-02 19:31

Looking forward to full report Big Grin

jameswp67 - 2008-05-02 19:36

That would be awesome! I would try and fly out for that, even without boxes! BTW Mirko, what do you think of the Crown 980 compared to the 850?

thafuzz - 2008-05-02 21:16

That would be awesome. Pics, vids if you please gentlemen. I'm looking forward to meeting up with Sinister and Masterblaster in Concord, Cali next wednesday. Boxes, Beers and.... Any other S2Gers in the area? Isn't there one in the Bay Area?

beatbox - 2008-05-03 12:11

Man, it would have been great to have had more members there today. Perfect conditions - hot sunny weather, lots of cool beers, hot dogs and burgers on the grill and of course the main ingredients: a JVC RC550, a Rising 20/20, a JVC M70, a Sharp GF777 and a GF1000!

I arrived on my bike with a rucksack on and the JVC RC550 over my shoulder to see Ralph, Felix and Andre on a road by the park with there GFs and Rising placed menacingly on a bench playing some tunes from an FM transmitter. I tuned my radio in and we had all 4 radios going. Ernesto arrived shortly afterwards and we made our way to a nice spot in the park. There is a huge bowl in the middle of the park where there was once a train-turntable, and as we walked through our boxes made themselves very well heard.

We sat down and Ralph, who came incredibly well stocked with food and beers, set about getting the grill together. We placed the boxes in a row, but our blankets down, cracked open the beers and inspected eachothers boxes.

Conversation ranged from boxes, to boxes, to more boxes and again to boxes. It was great to finally put faces to names and to enjoy sharing our boxes and our love of radios. It's bizarre to see other people manipulating their radios with the same attention as you do. Adjusting the bass a little here, the treble a little there, turning the subwoofers up or down depending on the track. It was, for me, fascinating to see other people and their radios, and to see the same respect and joy we have for this hobby. Then again, it could just be that it was fricking awesome to have 5 boomboxes next to eachother blasting out old skool tunes. Andre had some wicked mixes on his iPod that were being beamed through a transmitter, and the crowds of people that were gathereing around us seemed to dig the tracks too. I also learned that I much much much prefer the looks of the 777 to the 1000. Its simply far more stylish in my eyes and classier looking. The cassette doors, the tuner section seem to have been designed for a more refined look. I now find the GF1000, of which I have 1, to be a little more clumsy looking. I also learned that the M70 reminds me a lot of the Sharp GF9292 in the looks department and that it has a big sound. Sadly, I must say that my boombox was the best by far and the others could not keep up with the sheer size of my 10 incher... Big Grin Wink Just joking guys. You should have seen Andre's woofers going. They were going bonkers and looked like the would fire themselves out. He had turned those subs up to full and didnt care. It was great eye candy. It was a wonderful day.

Until Ralph took my bicycle and dissapeared for what seemed an age.

Suddenly, he arrived back with what can only be described as something the A-Team would have produced if locked in a small work room and told to make a Sharp GF777.

He turned his Evo III on and suddenly, what we thought had been loud music coming from the 5 boxes was instantly lost to the thunderous sound eminating from his homemade super b*stard.

This is THE most incredible boombox I have EVER EVER EVER EVER heard. We were all blown away, literally. I'm sure the others will agree that this thing completely destroyed and ripped to shreds our other boxes which now looked nothing more than toys. The people sitting around us could do nothing but stare also. This thing filled the air with sound where our boxes simply failed to make a dent.

Thanks for letting me witness this miracle Ralph, and a very nice touch with the electric antenna that retracted straight into the box! Tomorrow I start to build my own!

We ate, drank, pumped tunes and generally lay around taking in the atmosphere of this day.

Thanks for sharing it guys and I hope we can do it again. Next time maybe more members will be there too.

Pics I'm sure will follow. I had a flat battery in my camera. I know, what an idiot. But below you can see the box that made my day.

Peace and look forward to seeing some pics!!

peter.griffin - 2008-05-04 11:53

Wow, amazing, thanks for sharing with us guys.

How was the reaction of the people walking by?

driptip - 2008-05-04 13:29

wowo, nice extra pictures, great!! do all of you live in the same city? that park looks more like a jungle I like it!! and thanks for the names, is nice to finally see and know you guys from GERMANY.

kid.sensation - 2008-05-04 13:33

Thank you all for the nice comments guys!

Wish we could do a all S2G meeting, that would be cool Cool

Driptip, we are from different cities.

Beatbox and ghetto68 are from Berlin.
DJYetix came from Wolfsburg and AK74 and me came from Dresden to visit berlin for the meeting.

The good point is, that germany is maybe as big as one of the us states , so it's easier for us to meet up in one city.

Berlin was about the same way for Yetix and Ak and me.

Many people looked very interested and amazed to us and our boxes. Others took some pictures or asked us how old the BBX's are or how we managed the synchronous sound from all radios. Nobody felt disturbed obviously by our loud music.

Yes, it's a shame we didn't take more pics of the surrounding area. There were a lot of groups of people all around, and though our music was very loud, people continued to com and sit near us. Most of the groups were also grilling, so there was a nice smelly smoke all around. There was even a father with his very very small baby dancing to our tracks. But that's Berlin, and everybody is up for a party no matter what time of day or night!

ghettoblaster68 - 2008-05-05 04:37

finally i made it back on my computer!
it was as discribed by beatbox a very nice surrounding and meet/greet with all the guys.
it`s great to meet up with people you just know from web but you see they have the same feelings by looking on a bbx.

@transamguy: the hoody i got from my wife. she bought it 1 year ago here in germany. i asked everywhere maybe to get another one for you but the reply by the brand was: it`s SOLD OUT! The Brands name is Jack & Jones.I will still keep an eye on it, if i see one i will let you know.

Talking the whole time i forgot to take some pics - shame on me!! Red Face

I hope we will do it some day soon again!

cheers

redbenjoe - 2008-05-07 19:05

KS -- how would the 6400 sound compared to that awesome EVO ??

smokinendo - 2008-05-08 08:53

I love this hobby ! It's still so small and tight-knit... It's much easier to stay personal this way. Too many people leads to too many personalities which leads to too many personality disorders ! LOL

Anyway it looks like you guys had the best time ! I can't think of a better way to spend a nice afternoon then hanging with some close friends with common interest, while checking out some tunes, old boomers, chillin, grillin, and I'm sure checkin out the female eye candy that strolled through the park

Wish I were closer I would've been there in a second !

Oh and that Frankinboomer Blaupunkt is bananas !

by the way did anyone have anything rude to say about the loud music ? just curious

masterblaster84 - 2008-05-08 09:01

I agree, it's awesome when we can meet up. Unfortunately it's difficult because we are so spread out, maybe some day there will be a boombox convention. Big Grin

Just for the record, as soon as I hit the lottery, I'm flying all our members to Vegas for a "Brotherhod of the BoomBoxery"(Sisterhood too!) convention. My treat Wink I'll call upon my personal friends Robin Williams and Kid Rock to entertain till the other bands get there. The Hooters girls will be door greeters. Free batteries and reel cassettes for all! Me and Frank will do burnouts in our musclecars, and I'll hold a donut eating competetion as well. I've already won my first. (6 in 60 seconds- w/o milk)

henrytai - 2008-05-08 12:11

it's awesome, feel sad that only me and arkay gathering sometime in hong kong
wish more people join us~
seems like most of the people blasting thier bbx at home only, bcoz i know there are numbers of people own a bbx(mainly 777)......
but all of them are hiding.... Frown

- 2008-05-08 18:50

WOW what a gathering. Now if I could figure out where is the Greatest concentration of STG memembers here in the states we could possibly go the that center or neutral place to try to put a gathering together like this one above.

and in other news I am saving for a trip to Akihabura and HongKong later this year like the 3rd week in December 2008 sometime ... James
