Traded 5 cars for M90

ohboy - 2008-04-25 16:07

OK, so I listed a few hot wheels cars on ebay a few weeks ago, and was contacted by someone on the bay about whether or not I had any more...(of course I did) and he mentioned that he had noticed I buy boomboxes. He told me he had one, a JVC, but he didnt know the model #, and he was interested in making a trade. So of course I was excited that it could be, well, you know...
It turns out it was a M90!... He (dairy farmer from upstate NY) sent me some pics and off the negotiations went. So I consulted with one of our 'prestigious' members here, sent them pics and asked what they thought I should pay for the box if they were going to buy it. When I told them what it was going to take to get this, you can imagine their response! (GET IT!...LOL)
In the mean time, Farmer Tom (M90 guy) wanted to see what kinds of cars I had... I had about ten, and he was interested 7 of them. Well, I told him that the cars were near mint and the box wasnt, so maybe I would consider 3 or 4 of them and meet him half way to make the trade.
(about a 5 1/2 hour drive for each of us) Well, that wasnt going to cut it for him... the next idea was for 1 of the hot wheels and $175 in cash, but I couldnt get approval from the bank(wife) for the money. So on it went.
Days went by (felt like months, LOL) and the deal was finally agreed to.
5 Hot Wheels cars, and $50 cash (gas money for him) and he was going to meet me in NYC (1 1/2 hour from me!!) So Farmer Tom calls me Wednesday, and we make the trade! He looked like the happiest man alive! (so was I Nod Yes) Thank you Tom!
The radio works almost perfectly, stereo light is intermitent, and music search is a little funky, needs a good bath, missing top trim (of course), 1 antenna needs attention, the other needs replacement. But it sounds so good!

Thanks man...
The only redlines I gave up were a couple of sizzlers (the rechargeable ones), the rest of the cars were from the middle 80's sometime...
those cars meant more to him than me... so it worked out beautifully!

I know for some, getting rid of their collector cars would be as hard to do as any of us giving up a grail.

Great story! Great trade!

Any chance he had more boxes hidden somewhere in the barn?

rambo.estrada - 2008-05-11 12:34

Classic tale! Yeah it's funny how we always think what we collect is worth more than anything else, which I guess to us it is.

beatbox - 2008-05-11 14:29

One mans trash is another mans treasure... In this case two mens treasure was worth a lot more to the other!
