Conion/Epsilon TC-555 on ebay

jlf - 2008-04-18 19:24

I cant believe I won that Conion/Epsilon TC-555 that was on ebay this week! For like only $21?!

You guys must have been sleeping on this one!

Sure, it looks a bit rough; but its complete except for the broken off speaker guards of some sort. Not sure what I'll do about that.

For the price, I couldnt pass it up. Im going to have my local BBX guy give it a full going over once it arrives...

Another Conion! Im stoked!

Anyone else have one of these?

I'll post up some photos when it arrives. Auction just ended today, so it might be a week or so.

Id like to know what the family knows about these, anyone? Smile

No one here has a Conion 555?!

Could I possibly be the first in the family with one of these?! Smile

jvc.floyd - 2008-04-19 13:08

i thought it would sell for more ,it is a cool looking box . Confused

kid.sensation - 2008-04-19 14:44

congrats JLF..sounds like a great buy Cool

Do you got a pic from the auction maybe?I do not have the 555 in mind at the moment Leaving

ford93 - 2008-04-19 14:54

Good price congrats JLF!! Cool

Im still amazed that I got this one for so cheap.

I dont know much about this model. Or why its an 'Epsilon Conion.' Which kinda reminds me of the 'Technisonic Conion TC-999.' Rebranding is one thing, but keeping the original brand name along side the new one is interesting marketing.

I dont even know if this one has a line in. I would assume so, but from what I can see in all the photos in the auction... Im just not sure.

This one must be fairly rare. There were a few strange Conions up these past few weeks! Anyone else here snag one for themselves?

masterblaster84 - 2008-04-19 15:55

Congrats JLF that seems like a somewhat rare box and a great price. Nod Yes

It would be interesting to get a little more info and history on this box.

jlf - 2008-04-19 16:32

Thank you, Id like to know a bit more myself!

Jens you out there? Smile

I cant wait to get it so I can look it over and take some photos...

fatdog - 2008-04-19 19:39

I remember that box now. The first thing I noticed is that the speakers look like they're only 4" in diamter but made to look extremely massive. Be sure and measure the actual woofers when you get it; I'd love to know the size. Nod Yes

Oh... Your right!

Way to throw cold water on my excitement Bro! Big Grin

Nah Im still excited to get it. I wonder whats going on there though. Great observation!

kid.sensation - 2008-04-20 03:59

great price..
I remember it now too..Saw it 2 times on the german bay and allways liked the look of it and was about to buy it.

I never got a $21-chance back then Big Grin

I like how the led's are set in the speaker-trims.

I'd like to see an update with acual pics and some info on the overall performance once it arrives Smile

What a steal Cool

Smile I have this one in gold tan color is a good looking box the unique thing about it is that it has 10 band eq and the the first 5 band controls the sound to the left and the other 5 controls the sound to the right.

oldskool69 - 2008-04-20 12:34

That TC-555 is prety sharp. Smile I noticed that it's a victim of Big Hole/Little Speaker syndrome though.

jlf - 2008-04-20 13:37

Thanks for all the info and updates guys!

Im really wondering about this big hole/little speaker thing now!

I have confirmation of it shipping on Saturday, and its in California, right next door. So hopefully it will be here quick!

This photo from the original auction might shed a little light on the '8 inch woofer' question. I talked with my BBX repair guy today about this, and he sited a company in the 70's that did this with home stereo equipment. He said it was easy to convert it to the bigger speaker. We'll know for sure when it arrives!

I checked the BBDB and it only lists a Conion C-131 that looks like this one. In gold or black.

No Epsilon brand at all on my version of BBDB. I think there is a way to install it that free's up more info?! Anyone know what Im talking about here? Smile

Updated photos...

Arrived in amazing packaging.

However I couldnt believe how light weight the box was... This feels like a mini when you pick it up!

Basically another big empty box. Think Lasonic 931, only lighter, and not as loud.

This very box might have been the end of Conion as we knew it.

Yes, its THAT BAD.

4 inch speakers in 8 inch opennings too... What will they think of next?

I may upgrade them to the real deal 8 inch if there is enough power.

The speaker guards on each side were broke off, with the mounts still in place. I took the back off and removed the screws and the ugly broken base parts.

It cleaned up great and looks wonderful!

Considering I won it on ebay for so cheap...

Im still totally stoked that I own it!

Besides... its STILL a Conion!!! Big Grin

This?

jlf - 2008-04-28 10:32

Thats the one!

erniejade - 2008-04-28 11:52

Replace the woofers if it has the room!! I think roxbox had one of them a while back.

Where has he been?

jlf - 2008-04-28 14:05

Thanks EJ...

I also won a paper weight (i.e. good for nothing) Crown CSC-850F for about $20 last week too.

I think Im going to gut that for speakers and then give the rest away as a parts box to whomever would need it here in the Family.

jlf - 2008-04-30 19:34

This Conion is not really a good candidate for an upgrade to larger speakers.

My repair guy said today that the 'Disco Lights' at the top of the chrome speaker surround would be in the way...

Well, thats with a full size 8". Im sure something less would work.

Also my potential 'donor' box, the Crown CSC-950F ended up being in much better condition than I first thought.... Just mega dirty. So its being fully sorted out and cleaned up as a keeper.

That means Ive floated this Conion back on ebay tonight for a one day auction.

Fully sorted, new belts and cleaned inside and out.

Openning bid is $35. Less than my total investment.

Thanks!
