GF-9000 slow shutter pics

rambo.estrada - 2008-04-09 02:46

Well I'm on the road in Auckland, NZ's biggest city at the moment. And as I'm staying near the motorway I thought it could be cool to wander down the street with the GF-9000 and shoot some pics. We don't have a motorway where I live, so it was good to make the most of the surroundings.

I've wanted the GF-9000 for a long time and after my boy in Oz Ghettogas sourced this for me a while back I haven't had a chance to get a cool photo of it.

These ones came out quite nice, but not quite what I was after, I really need a spot with an unobstructed view of the motorway and city. One day I'll find it!

Great shots Rambo! That dang Sharp would be photogenic in a box, but these night shots with reflective light really bring out it's beauty. Cool

AWW MAN I love Great photography about as much as anything else I'm into and those are some Stellar shots ! Job well done and I love the new avatar. Ghettogas is mad cool too Cool

Say, how did you get the head lights and tail lights to have such long trails in the photo ? That's an effect I'd love to learn

Cool stuff and thanks ! Now I want a 9000 too Smile

Impressive shots and a good choice of location! The amber tint of the pictures goes nicely with the box.I'm still hoping for a calender with 13 months of Rambo's box pictures!

Very nice shots!!

jameswp67 - 2008-04-09 08:25

Great shots Rambo! Endo he probably used a tripod and a long shutter exposure to get the trails form the headlights

fatdog - 2008-04-09 08:49

Sweet shots, Rambo!! Cool

philip.lykov - 2008-04-09 08:59

The first and the fourth ones are ideal for the "Sharp" ad. Smile A 200% GF-9000 sales boost would be guaranteed if they were still making those bbx Big Grin

transamguy1977 - 2008-04-09 18:33

I Love the pics and am facinated by the trails as well.
I found you definately need a tripod to keep the camera steady while the shutter stays open for a few seconds otherwise you end up with a big blurry nothing.
I am still experimenting with my new camera and would love to be able to at some point take some shots like that!!!
Well done Rambo.
What shutter speed did you use?

weylandyutani - 2008-04-09 21:41

Nice shots mate North western motorway was a good choice. I Agree CoolTry up the top of mount eden or mount hobson in remuera!!!

Hey guys,

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the shots. I usually shoot with a Canon 20D which is quite a big digital SLR camera. But it was in the shop getting a service so I use a basic canon powershot point and shoot camera that I found on the road in Rarotonga.

To take slow shutter photos and get the car light trails you want to put your camera onto manual settings.

I'm no pro, but I just learn by experimenting, so this might not be the best way, but it's the way I did it.

Adjust the ISO setting to the lowest it will go, on the powershot the lowest was 100 ISO I think.

Next make your shutter speed somewhere around 4 - 8 seconds.

Then I would make the aperture as high as possible, on a point and shoot camera they don't give you much of a range.

Then set your camera up on a tripod, or if you don't have one you could rest it on something sturdy, I didn't have one with me so I just placed the camera on a box.

Take a test shot. If it's to dark then you can lower the aperture setting. Or you could make the exposure (shutter speed) longer.

If it's too light, then make the aperture setting higher or the shutter speed lower.

Have fun!!

Stunning pics of a gorgeous BBX! Cool

arkay - 2008-04-11 04:27

Rambo, great pics! Thanks for sharing 'em.

Neat how modern digital SLRs do away with the old "bracket widely and pray" process: You bracket one or two and KNOW right away if you've got the exposure right or not... and without wasting expensive film, either. I guess all this modern digital junk has something going for it, after all... Big Grin

Fuzzyduck: Love the new avatar! [Poor li'l duck, but it looks funny!]
