Marantz CH-53/CP-53 - my new BABE !

hifitom - 2008-03-28 06:02

Hello

When I first saw this, I knew that this must be mine. Shure, I never spended so much money for a "BBox", even not at this size, but it's worth every penny. I never saw something like this before, so nice and build for children-sized hands, and in such a high quality. Everything is massiv, no plastic, just metal. Boxed in a alu-flightcase you can play out of, a active horn-speaker system, and a lot of other goodies ...

This was owned by a pilot before. It's in a great cosmetic all around condition and in full working order. Even the active antenna and the manual is there ... I love this little thing!

So guys sit down and relax, and enjoy those pictures. They speak for theirself ... and share my pleasure ...

Best wishes
TOM

PS: I'm looking for all informations I can get about this!

So, what do you think about?

ford93 - 2008-03-28 06:09

Sort of like a James Bond kinda box! Cool

oldskool69 - 2008-03-28 06:13

Nice finds Tom! Nod Yes And 5 watts of power is pretty hefty for somthing so small! Eek Are the amplifiers in the speakers? Have you had a listen?

hifitom - 2008-03-28 07:20

arkay - 2008-03-28 11:00

I have that set, too, and love it. In fact, I only own it because of the big-hearted spirit of another member here (If you are reading this, you know who you are... and when the heck are you coming back for another visit?). I also know where a second set is, and plan on buying it. Neither my set nor the other one is complete, but between them I'll get a full set.

I am aware of one guy in the Netherlands who has a set, too,and there was one other guy on another board who found one. Your set makes the fifth one I've heard about (or seen), ever. There is very little about them online, and they seem pretty rare.

BUT this is the FIRST TIME I've EVER seen the full carry case and instructions like that, in that shape. The set you have there, in that condition, must be ultra-rare, and it's a Marantz-collector's dream find. If you ever get tired of it, PM me, PLEASE!!!

It's incredible the sound quality that they manage to get out of such tiny boxes, and all the controls and features they packed in ... especially when you think that this was made BEFORE the miniaturized computer-chip technology that made things like iPods possible. I'm still amazed by it, every time I turn it on and listen. TIP: try listening through the headphone jack, with good headphones or earphones. It's like a real, full-sized component set, that has been sent through the incredible shrinking ray from some sci-fi pic!

Enjoy your find... it is truly rare (and a real treat)to see the full package. all together like that and in that condition. You are a very lucky person!

P.S. - Don't forget to PM me if you ever want to part with it! Big Grin OH, and is there any chance of getting a scan or photocopy of that instruction book? Never seen it, and would love to have a copy to go with my set.

hifitom - 2008-03-28 11:38

Hello Arkay

Shure, next time when I'm on tour I could stop at Stables and make you a copy (I don't have a scanner).

PM me your adress ...

Do you have any facts of this? When was it build? Are there sister-models? How much was the price when this was new? ...? ...?

Best wishes
TOM

Hifi Tom, I am loving your boxes of late, I need to sort through and make some sort of trade, have you gotten rid of the Telefunken or the Partycenter yet? Can you please tell me what voltage they are? Oh! I almost forgot, This little Marantz is AMAZING! Nice one,

Unfortunately, I have very little information on this. It's rare enough that very little is out there online, and I haven't found any info locally.

I just noticed, though: you don't have the equalizer. There is a miniature equalizer with ten sliders per side, that goes with it. The dealer here who sold it said that either the cassette player or the EQ was an optional unit. I guess he was telling the truth, especially since that case only holds three units. My set is missing the cassette drive, instead.

To TPR:
I knew that you know something about this. But 469,- at this time is very ceap for a Marantz unit. At this time that was the price for a normal midsize boombox with a little bit of extras. Thanks for this!

To jameswp67:
The Telefunken HP 800 hifi is gone, but I got a second one. I just would give my one away for something real special. The Grundig Party Center 2000 hifi is still there. PM me for an exchange ...

To Arkay:
Don't forget me to PM your adress!

Didn't find the time last night for a soundcheck of the Marantz (grrrr!), because some friends came by. I'm leaving in a few minutes, will be back at sunday night. Then, I test it ... and will tell you all about ...

Best wishes & nice weekend
TOM

hifitom - 2008-03-30 23:15

Hello

I did a soundcheck last night. After 10 min. to connecting all those cables, I pushed the power-knob, and I was realy surprised what a great sound came out ot those micro-speakers! This thing sounds better than my Marantz PMS 7000!!!

Great tuner (which goes back to 54 Mhz on FM), super bass and sharp highs. This little thing got balls! ...

Best wishes
TOM

tpr - 2008-03-31 01:47

I agree that was quite cheap, but the offer was without suitcase.

redbenjoe - 2008-03-31 04:00

tom -- that set is even much more incredible than all the other incredible stuff we all have Smile

hifitom - 2008-03-31 05:18

Jow redbenjoe

Wait till I get back my Kenwood El Poco - till 10 weeks now at the radio-mechanic. He restored it for me, but when I first get it back after 2 weeks the tuner didn't work. But I made a soundcheck with the tape, and this thing blows of my head! Can't wait to get it back again to made a soundcheck and tell you about ...

I also have to work on my Mars - this thing is also unbelivable. Check out the tweeters (high- and middle driver which are fixed with a magnet on the top of the box! I had luck, the unit is in full working order. Just the cabinet need to be restore ...

Best wishes
TOM

redbenjoe - 2008-03-31 05:44

tom --to me, your collection seems like all the most rare one-of-a-kind prototypes --
all great finds

ned.209 - 2008-03-31 07:55

i like it. Tom, can you take it apart and photograph the different sections please? do the speakers extend back down to the bottom of the breifcase? indeed its an oddity

hifitom - 2008-03-31 08:42

Hello NED 209

I don't understand what you mean with "do the speakers extend back down to the bottom of the breifcase? indeed its an oddity".

Could you please explain it to me in other worlds (I'm a few years out of the english-business, so a lot is gone ...) - and - which bbox do you mean?

Best wishes
TOM
