kittmaster - 2008-03-21 14:55

After 8 months, it finally here......woohoo.

Danny64 got this baby out of Japan for me, didn't make anything off it, just pure S2G spirit....thanks Danny!!!

I also wanted to show what a great job he did packing this puppy......so other S2G know how he cares and takes care of business as it should be!

She doesn't power up, so I'll be busy this weekend.... Big Grin

I am missing a selector knob that goes left and right.....hmmm.....might need some help there......and its all in JAPANESE!! Are all GF1000's in japanese??

Anyway here she is!

Yeah Kitt the gf1000 its the top of the line of the 777 series only sold in japan so yes they're all written in Japanese letters along with GF909/919/ 999....looks great and well packed!!

transamguy1977 - 2008-03-21 15:21

Wow that sucker is clean!!!
I know you will have her up and running in no time.

Danny is a great guy, We have not met yet but we have become best of friends.
He is the type of guy that would give you the shirt of his own back.
My dog checks out all my new boxes like that when they get home that is so funny they are so curious.

skippy1969 - 2008-03-21 15:22

Very nice Kitt!!!!!!! I would like one like that someday. Congrats man!!! Eek Wink

appleknocker - 2008-03-21 15:25

Awesome, Chris. I bet you can't wait to get it up and running to hear how great it sounds. Also, I have one of those knobs I can send you!!

happy - 2008-03-21 15:31

Hi kittmaster youve got yourself one of the best, superb packaging too. This is no 1 on my wish list let us know what you think of the sound quality ive hear its a lot better than the gf777.

kittmaster - 2008-03-21 15:50

thanks for the wonderful comments......danny contacted me and told me that he didn't hook up the wire from the power supply when he had the back off. So it will be an easy peasy fix!!

It was damaged from japan to florida, he fixed it for me for FREE! You can't ask for better....

I owe him one and I got this box next to nothing!

@appleknocker.....thanks!!! Everything else seems to be in order. Can't wait to get her going again.... Big Grin

jvc.floyd - 2008-03-21 16:20

awesome man i love those boxes

kittmaster - 2008-03-21 16:23

Well I got her to power up but the entire right channel is working on either radio or tape, but the VU's are moving so that is a good sign.

THe left channel is working but it is distorted, not sure what's going on here.

Does anyone know if the schematics for a 777 and 1000 are equal? I wouldn't think so, but it seems to be similiar in many ways.

Anyone have a schematic for this thing?

fatdog - 2008-03-21 16:55

Congrats on the GF-1000! I would think it would be pretty much the same. Maybe a better amp and speakers though. You ought to bleach the woofers and make it look like Beatbox's Photoshop from a while back. Big Grin

- 2008-03-21 17:02

That thing is a monster Nod Yes

kittmaster - 2008-03-21 18:30

already ripped it down.....looks like my problem "could" be in the pots....the balance isn't working at all hopefully a good cleaning will fix the audio pathways.....since balance is part of the path....I'm hoping to get it solved........oh man.....what a pita to dismantle and get at those pots!!!

masterblaster84 - 2008-03-21 18:48

Kit that box looks awesome Nod Yes, better than the 777 for sure. Sounds like your going to have it up and producing good tunes in no time. I'm impressed with what danny has done for you and the 1000, he certainly earned your recommendation. This is what our little community is supposed to be about. Smile

kittmaster - 2008-03-21 18:50

I can't say enough good things about him........he held onto that sucker for 8 months when my life went into the toilet.....truely an asset to this community.

mafiagato - 2008-03-22 05:13

very nice!!

great day to you and your cats Big Grin, looking for something new to play, sounds familiar Wink

kittmaster - 2008-03-22 06:04

If any of you guys have any of the GF line, I'm looking for some parts in the wanted section. If you could take a peep......Smile

Love to play Mafia....Its more fun for me to fix and than use them....Leaving

mafiagato - 2008-03-22 07:04

i know you love do bbx surgery Big Grin, but i mean the cats, they are looking for something new to play and man you have your home like my home, full of cat toys!!!!

they have the control Nod Yes thx for share the pics

charlesdickens - 2008-03-22 07:23

OOOOHHHHH! Nice one Chris! I want to hear it this summer!!!

- 2008-03-22 08:16

the gf-1000 is one i've always wanted. i'm jealous man Eek

kittmaster - 2008-03-22 11:42

I found the problem with the channel not working, what a pita.....the resistive track inside the pot is cracked and seperated. The track itself is fine, but where the track end and connects to the pins is open.

I have to run up to autozone and grab some conductive paint to repair the trace and bridge them.

Should be good to go once that is done......then onto changing the crusty rotten belts....... Big Grin

smokinendo - 2008-03-22 12:28

Nice Score Smile That 1000 is HOT I really like to see all the different variations on all the boxes. It's cool to see the progression in style and technology. I know I haven't been on the site long but it's great to read about a strong brotherhood that sticks together and really help one another out. Good luck getting the box working and I'd love to see it after it's all fixed and cleaned up

kittmaster - 2008-03-22 13:16

You asked for it.....Wink

Here is the current state of affairs

oldskool69 - 2008-03-22 14:08

Whoa! Well looks like you got some work ahead. And I'm sure you'll "touch up" a few things too while you're in there. Nice Score! Big Grin

happy - 2008-03-23 06:23

Good luck on the work im sure itll turn our great.
looks very simmilar to the gf777 inside.
Is it the vol pot that has gone if you do need one let me know i have a new one still sealed.
there was also a guy in china selling a full set of knobs and buttons other members may know who it is.

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 07:42

thanks happy, I did that to show where the problem was, the pot is manually disassemblable.....if thats even a word. I used some conductive paint to restore the broken trace to pin connection....now its totally rebuilt and reassembled....Smile

It still has other issues that I have to deal with, a bad subwoofer and now after a while the sub amp is "humming", sounds like a bad cap somewhere.....

jimski - 2008-03-23 07:49

This might be youre sub problem? the humming//and or distortion

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 07:56

I thought of that, but its doing it on both subs.....the farting is a mechanical crunch that when you put your fingers on the cone, the crunching stops.

The humming isn't heard at first but then it slowly gets louder. It is heard on both sub drivers.....two seperate issues it seems....Frown

I believe it was XD62 or something. I bought a set of knobs from him to replace a few of mine.It was a top deal. He sent the items really fast

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 09:01

thanks eddy, I just dropped him a line.

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 09:02

A quick question for anyone who has a 777 or a 1000.

When you turn the two knobs near the subs, does it only affect the two center drivers or all four?

I have a 777 schematic which shows that it should only affect the center drivers but it seems to affect all four. To this point the 777 was right on with the 1000 in terms of circuits and layout....so I'm kind of confused.

Thoughts?

danny64 - 2008-03-23 09:04

chris
it only affects the two center drivers.

eddy - 2008-03-23 09:05

These pots only adjust the super woofer level Eek WinkSo , only the 2 in the middle

kid.sensation - 2008-03-23 09:08

Congrats on the purchase.

My buddy AK also got one of these some time ago and i have to say that the 1000 is the best sounding Sharp boombox i heard until now.
Even beats my 999.

The look is a special thing but it doesnt do it for me..I'll stick with my 999 Smile

Anyways..a great unit in all aspects.

good luck on fixing it!

To the control-knobs for the super woofers.
They only affect the 2 woofers in the centre on 777/909/999/1000.

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 09:22

Well damn I have another problem, when I turn the pots down, all four woofers shut down......I'm betting there is something amiss here.....Frown

fuzzyduck - 2008-03-23 15:44

Maybe a previous owner's been tinkering with the wiring somewhere.
Gorgeous machine for sure!!! Eek Cool

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 17:25

well upon further inspection, I found out the tweeters are working but both woofers are not........so that is 3 out 4 drivers that are completely screwed up or damaged.

Which is why I posted this in tech if you guys could be so good to offer up an opinion....Smile

Thanks

chilinvilin - 2008-03-23 17:53

Kitt good luck and glad to see you finally got her after 8 months of wait.

jlf - 2008-03-26 20:34

What a happy/sad thread!

Great story! I cant believe 8 months?!

I hope it gets to working for you... I know even my tech was scratching his head at a few solutions my 919 had inside...

It never sounded like I had hoped... So I let it go, to a family member of course!

These 1000's though, the best looking GF in my opinion!!!

Nice score!

doesn't hurt to ask but very rare indeed to find kitt...it may have come with the owners manual like the 777 did but even that it's a fat chance...

kittmaster - 2008-03-28 04:16

Blaster, I've actually discovered, for the most part, that the GF777 schematic covers the 1000......electrically.

The only difference would be in the parts numbers since the doors are different, the speakers color are different.......the search feature has more spots 7 vs 10.....but for the most part the amp section, seemed to line up perfect, color of wires, connector numbers......so its at least a skeletal way to troubleshoot it....... Nod Yes

bredgeo - 2008-03-28 04:34

NICE SCORE!!!!!!!!!!
