M90 find today at local swap meet.

milosancho - 2008-03-09 16:03

I don't collect BBX's but I saw this and knew enough about it that I could not pass it up. Especially at the price the guy was selling it. Very, very cheap. Cosmetically in decent shape. Just got it home so I don't know too much about what works and what doesn't. It powers up, I know that.m90

Nice find.
If you ever want to sell you'll have plenty of interest here. Wink

Looks like the person really cleaned her up real good before the sale. You'll be happy with the M-90 trust me!!

milosancho - 2008-03-09 17:51

Thank you all. It could use some TLC. Just tried the cassette, doesn't work. FM doesn't work. AM works, volume is scratchy. Pretty loud though, and darn heavy. Wasn't expecting this large a purchase while pushing my 2yr old around in a small stroller. Quite a good workout walking the 1/2 mile or so back to the car.

It looks OK cosmetically, so even in the state it's in, you'd be looking at a few hundres US$ on eBay, IMHO. It might be that a good clean-up of the switches & new belts for the deck & it's fully working again.
Does it have both antenna & does the line-in work?

smokinendo - 2008-03-10 11:38

Sweet Score ! Local finds are the greatest

Just that feeling you get when you first walk up on something like a M90 (or any legendary collectable) and hold it for the first time is probably worth what you paid for it. I'd consider keeping it as you may never find another one like it and after having it you may want it back... who knows ?

Either way it's a killer score !

That and...

I can't LIVE without my RADIO !

That link comes up as a closed auction for a Polaroid camera. Confused

matrixambience - 2008-03-10 14:43

I'd sell a conion or a sharp gf-777 way faster on ebay than an M90 JVC! The M90 is just a super knock out of a boombox!

milosancho - 2008-03-10 20:00

Line in works, all speakers are loud and clear. Has both antenna's but one is missing the top-most little knob looking thing. Broke off I think. I may have a like antenna to replace it though. I'll have to start scouring these forums for clues to replacement parts.
Oh, and I'm gonna keep her - for now at least.
Gotta get that L.L Cool J album.

tranxmetal - 2008-03-10 20:11

My M90 was from the wild too, Enjoy it! play it very loud, prepare yourself for hours of entertainment, like me, washing the car, at the yard, on a familiar picnic, on a friendly night, everywhere. Simply is no other like one of this!

matrixambience - 2008-03-11 14:29

No finger pointin' Beastie Boy....it is what it is!LOL!

beatbox - 2008-03-11 17:15

Congratulations, amazing score!! Eek Eek Eek

milosancho - 2008-03-17 21:40

Now I'm in the know about the amazing sound from this puppy. I happen to have a JVC PC-Y555 that I use on occasion, in the garage or when working on the yard. I though the sound from this "egg" (got this term from this site, although this might now fully qualify for the tittle it would certainly be classified in the "decline & fall" section). So this other box has what JVC called "3D Hyper-Bass Sound" which I though made this thing sound pretty darn good. Did a side by side comparisson RC-M90JW vs. PC-Y555.... the fight did not last 10 seconds. Absolutely no comparisson.

Now I know, now I spend what little free time I have at night, after the little ones are in bed, playing with this darn thing. Will I too want to fill up a room in my home with these things? Will I too start having drams and nightmares about bomboxes? Dang it.....

vladi123456 - 2008-03-17 21:57

Our member redbenjoe has some pretty good boomboxes for sale. I would personally recommend Sharp GF-777. It doesn't sound as good as M90, but it's pretty good - definately in my top 5 of best of the best.

redbenjoe - 2008-03-17 22:12

well vladi -
i dont mean to be so predictable and agreeable --however I Agree Smile

vladi123456 - 2008-03-17 22:35

Ira, to be honest - I'm simply practicing to become a used car salesman - so I'm lying about everything today Laugh Out Loud
But on a serious note - GF-777 is one of my favorite boxes - everybody should have one!
