My trip in Japan

crasse - 2008-10-07 08:28

This Summer I was on a trip in Japan, especially in Tokyo, and of course I couldn't miss to go to Design Underground !

It's a bit hard to find, far from the center, in fact I was in a Hostel in the Ikebukuro District (close to Shibuya), and It takes 40/50 minutes by the subway to reach the Design Underground's district (and after the train, I got to take a Cab °-° ) but anyway, I finally managed to find it !!

the owner is a very nice person and work with younger guy on collecting and repairing those marvelous stuffs (in fact in japan, people use to trash Electronic system , like Tv set, Hi-fi... very easily, when the got just scratches to buy new ones, this is the country of disposable electronic system, and so since the 70's, so you just have to know where to find them, and this a goldmine ! )

anyway here is some pictures ^^

here is the entrance

there is so much boomboxes, lot's of them are not on pictures, like M90's, bigben's an other rarities like GF-1000 (you should check there sites to see them, cause my pictures aren't so good Razz )

there is also some old weird Tv set ^^

and of course I couldn't leave this place empty-handed so I find out a wonderful National RX-F333 (triple (!!) cassette deck mini)
so Here it is, on the left side is the owner, me on the center (what a smile XD ) and his colleague on the right side.

masterblaster84 - 2008-10-07 18:24

Awesome crasse, that must have been incredible to be there. How did you manage to leave with just 1 super cool mini? Cool

crasse - 2008-10-07 18:49

thanks for all your comments, and thanks DecentMan4You for displaying my photo Smile

MasterBlaster84 -> Last Year I've been to china and brought back 3 Boomboxes (a 777, a GF-888/525 and a Sanyo M988X ) and I get around 150 Euros of weight excedent in the plane when I came back +_+. So this time, the rules was to look for little ones XD

But if I've only listened to me eyes (and not to my wallet) I would have brought back half of the shop Big Grin

ash25 - 2008-10-07 19:36

Thanks for taking the time to take photos, awesome. I would be nervous also, not knowing the language and gettin lost. Do you feel the prices were reasonable?

petey.awol - 2008-10-07 19:36

What were the going prices for a monster like a M90 in that shop? How bad is the Ebay inflation rates these days?

jaredscottfla - 2008-10-07 19:52

Cool Cool

crasse - 2008-10-08 04:42

in fact Japan isn't very cheap, for my triple deck for example, it was 15000 yen (around 90 euros), and a m90 must be between 400/600 euros, it's not so expensive (when I see m90 sold for more than 1000 dollars °_° ) but it's not china lol (where I get a 777 in a minty state for 40 euros)

ford93 - 2008-10-08 06:35

Hey, crasse did you see any M-90 when you were there. Because I'll ask jameswp67 to do me a solid and pick one up for me when he goes to Japan.

Duh just noticed it's HK he's going drat! Mad

viennasound - 2008-10-08 07:24

Wow, never seen so many beautiful electronics at one place.
Notice not only the blasters!
There are so many beautiful+rara clockradios, monos,tv´s,... Razz

I hope you enjoy your "threedecker" Cool

yep there was at least one on a table after the entrance, and maybe one more hidden behind many bbx, but to be sure you can also check his site, with the daily new ones ^^

retro.addict - 2008-10-08 08:57

Amazing, just amazing!! Eek

The big red 3-piece in this picture took my eye, tucked behind what looks like a Sony on the floor! MONSTER! Big Grin

I might have ended up phoning home and asking everyone I knew if I could borrow some money! Nod Yes I would have probably took the opportunity to scoop up "my grails". Big Grin

Thanks for these pics! Smile

kid.sensation - 2008-10-08 11:04

Thanks for sharing these awesome pics and the great story!!

Whats interesting for me is what the price-range might be?

Could you give any impression of the prices in € or $$?

thafuzz - 2008-10-08 12:15

Thanks for sharing these cool pics. I could spend all day in there just admiring these babies Nod Yes I couldn't leave there w/o a radio in my hands.

reli - 2008-10-08 21:21

A triple-cassette, interesting......I guess it's for playing a tape while you're dubbing 2 others? Confused

I wonder if there's actually 3 separate motors, or if the same motor is asked to drive all 3 decks No No

erniejade - 2008-10-09 21:21

Nice pics thanks for sharing with us

it's nearly the same as European Ebay (FR/UK/Germany, cheaper than US one)
My 3 decks is 90 euros and a Bigben is around 60000 Yen (so 360 Euros)
It's the only price I know, There is other one on his site if you wanna check ^^
It's not cheap but it's ok I think.
