Shed radio find !!

aza - 2008-09-20 07:34

OK, so i have been collecting boomboxes for a few years now and only recently decided to print up some 'wanted' posters that i have been putting up where ever i can think of.
A friend of mine has just started a job at a new mine site and he said he would put a poster up there for me too. Cool, the more people see it the better.
So i get a phone call the other day from a guy that works at the mine who says he may have the kind of thing im looking for. He has an old Ghettoblaster that he uses as his shed radio. I asked him what it was ? A Conion he says Eek with all kinds of bells, whistles and lights !
My first thought was... could it be the C-100 ?
I have only ever seen one other Conion and that was the C-126, which i found and bought locally for a high price.
I asked him if it said Super Jumbo 60 next to the speakers to try and determine what model it was. He said he couldnt remember and it was still out in the shed so he couldnt see it.
So i asked him if the colour was silver (C-100) or more of a grey (C-126) ? He said it was grey.
Ok, sounds like the 126. He said it was in "knocked around condition but not too bad" so i already had thoughts of how i could tidy it up. I always figured if i found one with dented grills i would remove them completely for a different look.
So i asked how much he wanted for it ?
$50 would do it he said !! Now that sounded pretty good to me even if it is a bit beat up. It was about an hour drive away so i organised to go there a few days later. When i got there he said he had taken it out of the shed and it was inside the house for me to have a look at. Some friends had come with me so they came inside to have a look too. As soon as i stepped inside i seen it, tried very hard to compose myself, told him it is exactly the kind of thing i was looking for and gave him $70 instead of the $50 he mentioned and thanked him for taking the time to call me, picked it up and headed back to the car.
And here it is Big Grin

Yep, a C-100 !! I couldnt believe it when i seen it. In fact i dont think i expected to see one ever. it is in great condition, not mint but pretty good especially for the price and with nothing broken or missing, just in need of a good clean. Some pitting on the chrome but should clean up nice. Tape players not working but radio and line-in work fine. This thing is loud !!

So there it is, my most exciting find ever.
Thanks for looking

FFS aza, yolu've got to be the luckiest guy around, well done. With the tape door too - that alone is worth more than you paid!

How the hell you kept yourself together when you saw it is anybody's guess.
I like the way you gave him $70, not $50... outrageous Smile

Well, I think you know we all *need* to see pics when you've cleaned her up to a sparkling shine...

What a brutally awesome story!!!

Now I'm motivated!!!!

I think I'll print up some "WANTED" notices to keep in the car, so whenever I see a bulletin board I can post one... Laundermats and grocery stores have bulletin boards.

aza - 2008-09-25 23:38

Hey JT, i say go for it. It could be well worth your while.
I keep mine in the car too and put them up everywhere and i get calls from all over the place. I have picked up some nice radios from doing this but the Conion was the one i had to share Smile
Here is my tip.... when i first started i had a picture that showed various different types of boxes i was looking for, ranging from small to large ones, (i wanted to cover as many of the styles i liked as i could) but i wasnt getting the response i had hoped for ???
So i decided to go back to basics and used a bigger picture of just my Sharp GF-9696.
I figured the 9696 would give a better representation of the classic boombox style i was really after.
I found that this worked much better, i have picked up some other nice Sharps and a few JVC's too amongst others.
Good luck and it would be great to hear if it pays off for you Smile

weylandyutani - 2008-09-26 01:28

AZA -- i am NEVER speechless ..................

reli - 2008-09-28 21:08

I've never understood what the purple thing is between the LED's Confused

aza - 2008-09-28 23:25

Thanks RB, it come up even better than i had expected.

Reli the purple square in the middle is where the motion sensor is for the alarm.
When turned on the alarm will sound when you approach, or try to lift, the boombox.

gluecifer - 2008-09-29 00:00

Is it just me or is that the most box fresh mint condition Conion 100F you've ever seen?

Unbelievable AZA, totally awesome.

Rock On.
