Hi all, I found this boombox for sale for $45 dollars and wondered what kind of sound and speaker setup this thing has. it's speakers are hidden behind a wierd grill so you can't see what it's packing in there. also, i have read both that it does and that it does not use batteries. anyone able to clarify? just trying to figure out if this would be worth looking into.

The RD-688AV is the same as the GF-555 but without the radio and doesn't take batteries. It is basically a professional tape recorder. Smile

I Agree yep,that's it,personallyi don't care for the look of the 688 but $45 isn't a bad price.

i've decided i think i'm going to skip it. the lack of battery capability and radio kinda did it in for me. the box is alright looking, it's missing the door in the middle, but i've never been a stickler for cosmetic issues. overall just more than i want to pay for something that only plays and records cassettes.

I Agree I feel the same way about that model. Unless I get a killer deal I wouldn't get it either. It's to limited being just a fancy tape deck with speakers.
