A question to those who've had both...

monolithic - 2008-09-09 15:20

Which is the better boombox as far as sound quality and loudness goes: the Conion C100F...

or the JC2000?

I ask because I'm gearing-up to buy one of the two (if things go good) before the year is over. Smile

Also, keep in mind that I'd still like a J-1 Super Jumbo,...

which could knock both the Conion and JC2000 off my 2008 want list. Nod Yes

jvc.floyd - 2008-09-09 15:25

i had the conion and the j1 side by side and the j1 whoops its ass in bass and volume, the conion sounds a little better down low but once you crank them up the j1 just pulls away from it .the j1 is also bigger than the conion and the led meters dont peak out at 1/4 volume like the conion does.i think the j1 is just a cooler looking box.as far as i'm concerned you have nothing to fear from the conion if your'e carrying the j1 on the other hand if you have the conion and the j1 comes out to play you might want to go the other way.

Whew, for a minute I thought you were gonna ask about STD's.... Red Face

Well here's my Comparison of a Conion C-100F and a
JVC M 90 and a Fisher PH-492
CONION C-100F JVC RC-M90 FISHER PH-492
It's one out of three .... Big Grin

I saw that a few months ago... According to your test, the Conion blows 'em both away at half volume! Eek

jvc.floyd - 2008-09-09 15:41

you have no idea what a huge box looks like till you see the j1 in person its mind boggling ,just a tad smaller than the elta.even the mighty m90 has a hard time dealing with the j1 .

monolithic - 2008-09-09 15:51

So... are you sayin' that the J-1 may be the loudest 1-piece box ever made? Confused

I really hope that's what you're sayin'! Laugh Out Loud

thafuzz - 2008-09-09 15:53

I've heard a few of the bigguns, but I'm still most impressed with the powerful 10" woofers on my Wheely. Hard to think a C100F would beat it. I'd LOVE to hear the J1 still. I DO know my Wheely is "Hecka" more powerful and bassier than my 909 and 492 hands down.

thafuzz - 2008-09-09 15:58

Oh, and just for educational purposes, I finally cracked opened my "Helix Wheely" and found "Matsuki" brand 10" woofers. WTH?

That's the appeal of the Wheely to me - the biggest 1-piece boombox ever made, with the biggest woofers ever put into a boombox! Cool It goes without sayin' that 10" woofers move more air than 8" woofers... The bass coming from that monster has got to be downright ridiculous! Eek

thafuzz - 2008-09-09 16:06

Don't get me wrong Mono, I too think the J1 is one of THEEE coolest looking boxes around and gotta get me one too Wink

- 2008-09-09 16:37

The elta has a good sound its just not hifi sound and its as loud as a standard m90 i loved mine.

oldskool69 - 2008-09-09 16:40

Is it me...or does it appear that the JC2000 & Conion share some genes from the same pool, visually definitely. Smile

yea oldie i recon they share simalarities possibly the same guts as firms were in and out of each others pockets back then like now.

transamguy1977 - 2008-09-09 16:52

Ive had both the C-100 and JC-2000/Elta Masterblaser

I would say the Conion is better built inside and out and is louder.
The Elta had better bass and range due to the equalizer.
but the cabinet cant handle the bass.
I have not yet heard the J-1 but from what you guys are saying I think I would like to.
I am also partial to silver boxes so far as old school looks are concerned .
It is my favorite color for a boombox , plus the silver plastic seems to be a bit more rigid than the black.

eric - 2008-09-09 17:24

I can only compare the conion and Elta. For better Sound quality I'm going to give it to the conion because of the 3 way speakers...you get a little more treble and the bass is good. Now if you start to crank that conion up..you hit distortion (bass wise) so you have to turn down the base. Now the Elta has good sound not great...it's a little bit of a slacker on the high end. Those are really only 2 way speakers inside. But those big 10 inch woofers do provide a good amount of power and less distorted bass at higher volume than the conion and it hs a eq so you can do some fine tuning. The conion is built better hands down no comparison there. But you don't see a box (the Elta) as big as your youngest daughter that you can carry with a handle and call it portable very often..if ever. That's what makes the Elta impressive....So after all that I guess I prefer the conion.....maybe Smile

redbenjoe - 2008-09-09 18:30

eric --that was very fair 'two sides of the story'
review -- thanks

masterblaster84 - 2008-09-09 19:16

The Wheely is huge, check the pic for size comparison to the M90 which is a large box. Nod Yes

l.lopez - 2008-09-10 00:16

SmileI had 3 J1 models but one is louder and has better response. The Tecsonic J1 and the Intersound J1 is loud with decent bass not good but decent the woofers are 30 watts at 6ohms now the Promax J1 has good bass better than the Conion C100F that is due to the woofers are 30 watts at 4 ohms but still it is not louder than the Helix Wheelly 5000. Also the boombox with the 10 inch woofers that has better sound from the brands I had all 4 models the JC-2000 the Helix Wheely 5000 the master blaster by International and the Matsuki and they all are loud with deep bass but the 1 with best bass sound goes to the Helix Wheely 5000 the amp prduces such a deep bass that I had to open the cabinet and put foam inside cause the cabinet couldn't handle it, It was so strong I couldn't beleave it is portable and sounds like a home system now with the foam it sounds better.

kid.sensation - 2008-09-10 04:20

I knew a J1 was bigger than a c-100 and imho better looking.

And now i hear that most of you good people say that it's among the best sounding one of all 3.
It sure thumbs out some hardcore-sound..easily the best pumping one of all my units ( apart from the M1 )

Agreed on the mean and great look.

still would not mind adding a Master Blaster tough Wink

considering the prices all these units go for i'd stick with the J1 in the first place.

jvc.floyd - 2008-09-10 05:14

i think all 3 boxes are cool ,but price wise the j1 would be the most afforable ,and the most bang for the buck ,build quality wise the conion is built better than the other two ,i guess it all comes down to which one you want the most ,probobly the only time the conion has been the smallest box in a comparison.

gluecifer - 2008-09-10 05:24

I've not had the pleasure (yet) of hearing the other 2 but as far as the JC-2000 goes it could be customised to sound much better than it does out of the box.

As TransAm says, the case just can't hack the power of the speakers. Some dyna-mat or some other audio dampening foam could make a massive difference. I also find the cheap amp clips on mine along with the left channel occassionally needing some encouragement.

My suggestion is when you buy one try to visit it beforehand as because they're so cheaply made theres bound to be something wrong with it, try to find one with things you can fix. I know this rule applies to a lot of radios but with this one it's doubley so.

Rock On.

erniejade - 2008-09-10 12:45

Lopez that was a great review on the difference on the that model. Thank you.

monolithic - 2008-09-10 21:25

Thanks to everybody who commented! Cool

The ultimate goal - for me - is to get the J-1, so nothing has changed in that regard. They just don't show up on eBay as often as the Conion C100F. Frown

On a related note, I wish the kid who used to carry that gold Conion C100F back in the days still lived in my neighborhood. No need to say more... Wink

l.lopez - 2008-09-10 21:47

Smile No problem Ernie.
