Crown CSC-850 YAY!!

transamguy1977 - 2009-01-20 18:01

Well its been a long while probably 9 months or so since my last purchase and I am real excited about this one.
Anyone here that has one please give me some details and input on how you like yours.
What size are the woofers on this one???
Is this about the size of a M-70??
I cant wait till it arrives It will get the full T/A resto treatment.
Lookie here for auction pics

redbenjoe - 2009-01-20 18:10

its about 10% larger than the m70 -
the woofs are about 7 1/4 "

the bass comes on solid at even a very low volume-
so expect to like it better than your m70

btw -- nice pick-up Smile

billpc55 - 2009-01-20 18:12

nice boombox very cool indeed.i went to see one of these on craigslist here a couple months ago. its a good size it was close to the size of the m80 i have. i had to give it a pass tho as it had obviously had some damage to it beacause it wouldnt work and the battery compartment was warped from a some kind of electrical fault. probably caused by improperly inserted batteries.

daiwa - 2009-01-20 18:39

...nice pick up Frank. No doubt what condition it's in with 15 pics to choose from! I'd like to add a Crown someday...

transamguy1977 - 2009-01-20 18:50

WOW Dave, great to hear from you .
I am syked but it will need work as they all do.

Why does every boombox discussion have to bring up this image of a "massage" parlor! Laugh Out Loud

Congrats Frank,she looks great!!!
crowns rock! Big Grin

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-20 19:43

i think the 850 is a great box ,i can tell you its on par with the m70 ,the m70 has a better tape deck but thats about it .

baby.boomer - 2009-01-21 01:18

I'm a big fan of the 850, too. Own one and love it! Heavy sucka. I'm jealous that you got a strap (since it doesn't have a handle and is hard to carry around by its hooks).

I thought about hitting the buy-it-now on this one (not knowing you've been wanting one), but couldn't bring myself to shell out the money just to get a strap! So, think of me the next time you walk around with that mean thing slung over your shoulder like it oughta be! Wink

chancenellie - 2009-01-21 01:22

Nice pick up , i've got two,one of my fave boxes, sound superb and so easy to work on,you'll love it

billy.the.binman - 2009-01-21 03:02

i had one of those! sold it to someone on here a while back i think, it was great! had no strap. bassy and nice quality. good buy

If I were you I would grab a cheap laptop bag and raid the strap from it.
That would work perfectly and be less expensive.
I like the feedback im hearing.
Nice Bass , nice build , easy to work on ,
Im more excited now and looking foward to finalizing my happy ending Laugh Out Loud

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-21 14:02

the 850 is 23" wide 14" tall to the top of the handles 6" deep the woofers are it seems like just shy of 8" the tweeters are 2 1/4 inches.

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-21 14:07

mine has the date code sticker on it showing it was made in 1981.

ford93 - 2009-01-21 14:13

Congrats TA on your Crown I think is a great looking box. Smile

redbenjoe - 2009-01-21 14:48

and floyd --glad you are enjoying my old crappy #850 Big Grin

(j/k--was a beautiful GREAT box--i sold it only because i had TWO)

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-21 14:58

thanks ira ,i love mine and i use it all the time. Smile

redbenjoe - 2009-01-21 15:11

Smile Cool
except -- i see you are still lugging it around under your arm --
without a strap Big Grin

actually -i just went outside and tried it 'your way' --its not that heavy --so it was fine.

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-21 15:22

ira i usually don't carry it far but when i do i just put it on my shoulder old skool style lol.

transamguy1977 - 2009-01-21 15:27

This one is kind of expensive but see where Im going with this???

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-21 15:34

its all good man ,i like going strap less cos i dont want to feel like i'm carrying a big purse.

reli - 2009-01-25 11:58

The straps are cool, because the hooks on top make it look military-industrial. Just one more thing that makes it look obviously retro in comparison to today's junk.

Really Floyd? I just could never get into the shoulder thing.
No No

reli - 2009-01-25 12:19

That's why you sort of twist it around so it's on your lower back. Frees up your hands to carry other things.

echoes - 2009-01-26 12:19

Yeah i've got one of these as well. Good sound and long battery lifetime. But compared to a M70, the JVC wins. Just more punch, more control, better performance at high volume.

ak74 - 2009-01-26 12:29

I Agree
but i love the design of the 850...

wow

echoes - 2009-01-26 12:55

yeah, great pics.

2steppa - 2009-01-26 13:24

Never been decisive about whether I like the look of these personally, mainly that 'no handle' thing! I don't doubt they're an amazing box though and still classic in general appearance. Good pics BTW.
