Got myself a Akai AJ-W238 boombox for $8 today.

Features of it include:
-3 band graphic equalizer
-3 band radio (FM/SW/MW)
-a balance control
-external microphone jack plus a built in microphone
-twin tape decks (with high speed dubbing)

Apparently according to a site called Hifimuseum this Akai boombox was released in 1985

Thanks for the comment-couldn't find much information on the web about this Akai.

Using it is quite easy-I like to adjust the graphic equalizer to improve the sound when playing tapes.

The sound quality is very good-the speakers produce nice, loud sound.

Yes, the museum-site is interesting! Nod Yes
Some nice boxes there.

About the AKAI:
Not the typical collectors box, but when you like it and it sounds nice - good score. Wink

You realy must be a AKAI-fan ...

... because I don't know any Akai-boombox that sounds nice ... sorry!

PS: My first home-stereo I bought with 16 was a Akai - the M313. You know this stereo? That was back in 1986, I still own this. I just bought it because I thought it looks so cool. It was one of the first with Surround-Sound, and it has a display in the amp, a great light-show! And for this time, a douple tape with douple auto-reverse was a real "wild thing" ...

Best wishes
