I don't think that model has the light up woofs Ira. Frown
But it's still cool looking. Big Grin

ok - thanks, scott-
then its really not a 'limited edition'
just a different color !

cant blame the seller, though
since EVERY box i sell is called a "special edition" Laugh Out Loud

skippy1969 - 2009-01-15 19:06

Very special...... Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2009-01-15 19:21

Big Grin at least semi-special.

btw --the kaboom in the listing -- may just be a 'limited' because its sort of a 'see-thru' ??
when there is less pigment in the mold mix -
then the case is not opaque --
so -- no biggie on that one Smile

There's one of these blue mini-kabooms that has slowly wasting away, hidden on the top shelf of a very cluttered pawn shop in town. I don't think it is the same size as our RV-DP100's, Ira.

In retrospect, it's the only relatively decent box I've ever seen in the wild in my area. Its been there for over a year now. I've been in that shop three times in the last year and it has never moved from its spot. Unfortunately, you can tell its got some scuffs and looks quite dirty. The guy wants $90 for it, and is overpriced on a lot of stuff in his store. If I didn't already have the sumptuous RV-DP100 then I'd probably buy it.

I will watch this auction and see how it goes. Maybe that shop is motivated to come down off of that price a bit. I may have to take a test-tape and go check that sucker out...

Just wanted to echo ("hello... hello.. hello...") what everyone else has said.

The LTD wasn't what I would consider limited (I saw them everywhere back in the day), although maybe fewer of them were produced than grey ones. Just translucent baby blue is all they were. (Well, the Japanese version had a white dolphin graphic over the right speaker.) A regular first edition Kaboom otherwise (although I've never done a loudness comparison). Actually, in terms of production, I'm thinking the olive green one was the real "limited edition." They were here and gone before I could grab one.

Two of the second-generation "mini kabooms" had lights in the centers of the speakers: red lights on red boxes and blue on the blue. Both boxes, I believe, were translucent plastic.

That one on eBay is a standard full-size Kaboom in a pretty coloured case. No lights on the speakers. ...& it's not exactly in perfect condition.

The Kabooms with the lights on the front speakers (RVB550) are not full size Kabooms:

They have no big woofers at either end (with only 2 channels of amplification, not 4, like a full-size). The 2 front firing speakers are a bit bigger at 10cm (full-size Kaboom fronts are 8cm) & they're acoustically loaded for better bass response - it has "active hyper-bass pro".
The JVC manual has power output at 2 x 10W (rather less than the 2 x 5W plus 2 x 15W of a full size Kaboom).
They also did a version of the "Kaboom-lite" without the speaker illumination - the RVB55:

The first edition mini-Kaboom (the RVB55) came in a few colors, including a translucent turquoise, ironically dubbed the RVB55LTD. None of these had speaker lights.

The second editions (the 550's) had the speaker lights.

thanks alot iso and BB --
you guys are the proof that we DO have kaboom aficionados Smile

therefor -- we have EVERYTHING here !!!!!

Opinion isn't unanimously positive about the Kabooms, but you have to give JVC credit for one thing:
Copious amounts of bass from a freestanding 1pc boombox.
I know of no other 1pc boombox which can come close to matching it for bass output when used out in the open (no corners or walls to help).

...unless someone knows different? Smile
