Can someone do me a favor?

skippy1969 - 2009-02-04 12:49

I'm looking for a scan from 1980's catalog or something that would have the price on it for a Panasonic RX-5350.
Fed Ex broke mine to smithereens and I need to submit somekind of value or price of what it cost back in the day.
These people are soooo stupid at FedEx,I guess the value that you fill in when you ship it means absolutely nothing...... Mad
Thanks! Big Grin

transamguy1977 - 2009-02-04 12:55

Fed Ex absolutely sucks.
You should only need a reciept from whom you purchased it from(if you can get one printed up that looks authentic)
and dont dare tell them its an antique or irreplacable they wont cover that at all!!!!
Good luck and sorry to hear about it.

skippy1969 - 2009-02-04 13:00

I tryed that Frank, Roll Eyes and they said a receipt wasn't good enough. Mad
Besides I traded with a member on here,so I'm screwed.......... Frown I asked if I had a receipt from that person for the value They said, thats not good enough proof either. Confused

so sorry to hear that Skippy, hope you can get your money back, good luck bro.

redbenjoe - 2009-02-04 17:48

skippy --in case any member here can locate an ebay seller named "OOSC" -- up in canada --

he may have some sales records of that exact same version of your 5350 --he sold one to me a few years ago --then mine went to vladi -

i have no 'paper trail' on all that -- but OOSC might.

masterblaster84 - 2009-02-04 17:56

Sorry to hear Skippy, the 5350 is such a cool box. Frown
Nobody wants to pay up so you have to jump through hoops before they'll do it, wonderful insurance coverage isn't it?

prime - 2009-02-04 18:16

A while back there was a thread with scans
from an 80s catalog that listed the 5350 at $479.
I can't remember the thread. Maybe someone else does?

tpr - 2009-02-04 18:28

here you go

redbenjoe - 2009-02-04 18:49

i just now found the paypal receipt --for what i paid on ebay for the identical model that skippy has/had Frown Smile
do you guys think it will help to establish the value as a 'collector' item ??

asking because -- its WAY over twice that cheapo catalogue list price Big Grin

skippy -check your PM -

oldskool69 - 2009-02-04 19:24

Good luck with this Skip. DHL is no better. Frown

master.z - 2009-02-04 19:40

DHL stopped all domestic shipping last week. Now they only do international.

skippy1969 - 2009-02-05 05:27

Thanks everyone especially Jens. I think that those photos will work ok. I'll send them to FedEx and see what kind of B.S they give me now, what a friggin nighmare,UH! Mad Mad

vladi123456 - 2009-02-05 06:15

Did they say they were going to give you the catalog price? Or divide the catalog price by the number of years since this box was released, and give you whatever's left?
I had no idea they can do crap like that - buying insurance on boomboxes might be worthless? Eek

skippy1969 - 2009-02-05 06:26

I don't know yet Vladi. I'll have to see what they are going to do. Roll Eyes
Yes I told here I had it insured for $500.00 and she said that is not insurace,it is just "declared Value" WTF is that????? Confused Confused

I also hate FEDEX. I had a similar experience a couple of years ago and FEDEX made it really, really hard to get things worked out. Even with the insurance, they will come pick up your smashed boombox, ALL the packaging/packaging materials, ship it to the evaluating center and only then will they decide what will happen with your claim...so you end up with No boombox, No money and worst of all no guarantee that you will receive money from your claim...it's terrible.

When the same thing happened to me with FEDEX i got into a huge dispute in my driveway with the FEDEX driver, and then i went directly after the seller for my money, and i got back what i thought was fair for everyone and i restored the boombox.

I also think i remember FEDEX telling me that they had a small MAX limit for vintage stuff and i would never see my full amount of my boombox. I hope it all works out for you...i feel your pain Frown

That's pretty dirty because they base their insurance coverage charge on the declared value. Sounds like FedEx is the big winner any way you look at it.

The CEO has to have his multi million dollar salary so how else can they pay for it except ripping off the customers.

jvc.floyd - 2009-02-05 09:13

fed ex had to be very rough on that box to do what they did to it ,i mean it's just insane how they treat stuff and they get away with it for the most part, man i hope they at least send the box back to you .

I wonder what they are doing with the packages that are "in the pipe"? I have had a Express package shipped from Germany 3 weeks ago via DHL($1000+ value) that still has not arrived. Mad
