Technics SA-07 – a big boy

hifitom - 2009-02-18 07:19

Hello

Today my new Technics arrived - I read a lot about this bbox, that it should be as good as the Telefunken M1 or the Grundig Party Center 2000 hifi ... but ... no way!

It's a nice soundig bbox, a real biiiiig one, heavy like a rock, good sound stage but no bass! Shure, normal bass, but no sub-bass - that's the difference between a Hifi- and Stereo-Ghettoblaster.

It's a real beauty, but I'm realy disapointed of the sound ...

How does the SA-05 sound against the SA-07? Is there also no good bass on this bbox???

Best wishes
TOM

I had one too Tom and I agree.I Agree
I feel It doesn't sound as nice as it looks.
I mean it looks like it could blow the whole boombox world away,it is very loud but not much in the bass department..... Frown

sounds like my kind of box actually Nod Yes

these units sound decent and they are powerful,i think better speakers would really wake these units up then it would sound as good as it looks.

Thanks for making me feel better. Smile I lost out on one recently and was disappointed, sorry it was a disappointment for you though...

I agree with Tom, definitely no sub bass.

I connected Studio 1 speakers to mine in an attempt to improve the bass.
Not much improvement. The center section lacks deep bass response.
The same can be said for the Technics speakers. The stiff fabric surrounds
on the woofers don't allow too much movement.

Still a very good AC box. Very loud and clear. A good choice for those who like to
crank it up with Van Halen or AC/DC.

That is too bad Tom! I love mine, it sits beside a Studio 1M on my shelf, I love the black version, if you want to get rid of it, pm me,

Thanks James

but I gonne put the Technics in my "great looking - bad sounding units"-corner, next to the GF 777 and the Marantz PMS 7000 ...

And thanks for the warning about the SA-05: mybe that's the reason why Technics offer for the SA-05 a subwoofer (a kind of cupboard, where you could stand the SA-05 on top of it - same size, same design). Did they offer something like this for the SA-07???

Thanks and best wishes

hmmm...I have the technics sa-c07 and the telefunken 1..I love both of them as well and the sound of each one is similiarily comparible ...both rated at 30 watts a channel rms..love that technic's , boy Nod Yes

i just think if you found the right replacment drivers this unit has great potential .

jameswp67 - 2009-02-20 20:59

Sometimes you just get a lemon! I had 2 M90s before I thought mine was great...I also had 2 Panny RX-7200's before I found one that really cranked! If I can, I will always try for a second opinion on a box that disappoints!

Jow James

I had a few Telefunken M1 and they all sounded the same, also a lot of double bboxes, but I never heared any difference between them.

Shure, if I ever find a silver SA-07 I would go for it. Since the first time I saw this babe I knew that I must have one. It toke me a long time (about 3 years) to find a right one, in good shape and full working order. But I'm still searching, hope it will not take another 3 years to find a silver unit ...

Thanks and best wishes
