Sharp QT-77 In the wild find!

jlf - 2009-03-27 16:15

Decided to drop into a Goodwill today that has often had high end home equipment...

Ive seen a few boomboxes at this location before, always the early 90's throw aways. Nothing worth grabbing.

Then suddenly... I see one worth investigating!

Picked up a 7 out of 10 condition Sharp QT-77 mini!

Photos to follow later...

first of all, it IS a mini, and yet it takes 8 batteries! Ok, only 'C' batteries, but still! It was so HEAVY that I thought it still had the batteries in it. Nope.

This thing must weigh about the same as any 20 x 12 sized boombox you could mention. I cant believe it!

100% working! Cassettes too, on every function, both sides!

Only problem, volume is at maximum overdrive no matter where you turn the knob. Somethings messed up there...

$7.99 total price!

Im kinda stoked... It really is a 'QT'. Wink

Very cool Jeff. I had a red QT77 once. They are a nice unit. Your volume problem is probably cause but a dirty pot or the contacts inside the pot are worn or out of adjustment. Sometimes you can dissemble the pot and fix them, but be careful the contacts are fragile. Nice Grab my friend! Big Grin

Thanks buddy! I appreciate the tech advice. I picked up some of that 'spray stuff'. Smile

$7.99 might be all the money these are worth, but it had been so long since I found something in the wild... I had to pick it up.

Im not really a 'mini' guy, but they are growing on me, besides, this thing is LOUD! And it has Line In too! Totally feature packed actually...

Nice find - this is a solid mini - the line in is very good on these and makes it a very handy travelling boombox for use with the ipod (or iriver in my case) - congrats!

This is a nice mini. Louder than you think it will be too.
Way back when, I was at a houseparty & one of these was being used as the music - it sat on the mantlepiece & blasted hard all night without missing a beat.
