Soooooo...got another one.

Consider it done

Well, after debating, waffling and just generally sitting about on this one I decided to finally go for it. This makes something like 3 boxes in a month but this is going to be the last one until something REALLY fine rolls around. I have a ton of hobbies and need to make sure I spend my money wisely and evenly.

Still you chaps seemed quite enthusiastic about this box so I thought "why not?" and gave it a go.

Sure the deck doesn't work but I my D8443 and RX 5010 both have working decks so its no big loss. I'm kind of excited for this one,I'll let you know how it looks and sounds when it comes.

That's a nice box you bought! If I'm not mistaken, the seller is a member here. It even has the aluminum trim around the LEDs, which has a knack for falling off and winding up missing on these boxes.

Didn't we warn you that it's addicting? Big Grin

This is the last one for awhile,I swear! I've been wanting to completely renovate my computer so I need to save up for this as well. This one just seemed to be an exception to the usual boxes I saw on my eBay searches. I also don't really see too many of these on the 'Bay so I was afraid if I sat on it that it would be some time until I saw another one.

Please let us know what you think. I myself am very interested. I think you will find it amazing for its size. (providing everything works right)

I want one of those... I like the look of that box - especially the extra long LED meters! Cool

Let us know how it sounds. Nod Yes

Congrats, 928GTS! Smile

I needed something with meters! I saw the long LED meters and just laughed and thought how much fun it'd be to have that box blasting some trance in a dark room with the LED's going bonkers to the bass beat. I've heard these boxes sound really good and have a good tuner so that was the other 85% of my reason to buy it.

Nice pick up.
I think this box has the longest led array on the front I have ever seen!!
Aside from the one in Bash's av Laugh Out Loud
Very kool
Full report when you get it Nod Yes

I can tell you 928GTS will be very happy!

Great score! I have this one along with it's twin the G.E. 5239-A "Blockbuster" And yep, 24 leds total, 12 in each direction. A very under rated and nice rich sounding box. The cassette is easy to get to for repairs as well. Nod Yes

928gts - 2008-08-26 18:03

Yeah,I'm pretty lucky. I know a fellow who does great work with cassette decks so I'll have it looked at......that is if I can pry myself away from it.

Hey OS, check back in this thread a bit. RBJ needs you to clarify something. Yes, I started it as usual. Smile

Nice, I have had that on my watch list for a while now and want to get one and it's GE counterpart. Great boxes.
Peace,

Nice looking box! Cool I'm sure you'll be happy with that one. Smile

gtastuntcrew302 - 2008-09-04 04:37

can you say score

928gts - 2008-09-04 07:10

I'll be going home today after class to pick it up so expect preliminary impressions this evening.

2steppa - 2008-09-04 10:41

Incredible LED's, I think this is the same model as one I narrowly missed out on a while back..

Seriously cool looking box it must be said Cool

jaredscottfla - 2008-09-04 10:52

Cool

928gts - 2008-09-04 15:45

Well I've had it for a few hours and a few preliminary impressions is that its bloody loud with a very balanced and even handed sound. Its crisp almost being to the point of being a little to much so. This is nothing reducing the treble pot can't fixed. I'm very pleased with its punch and clarity even on batteries.

The tape deck actually works! I think it might either need new belts or a really good cleaning as their is a lot of flutter that slooooowly works itself out after playing a tape for a few minutes.

Unfortunately it seems that the pointer that moves across the tuning dial has gotten stuck. It will go to the left but will refuse to move to the right so thats something for another day.

Regardless of that minor niggle I'm past impressed. I love this box's sound, looks and feel.

I'll post pictures and a proper review hopefully by tomorrow.

monolithic - 2008-09-04 21:26

Congrats again! Can't wait to see more pics! Cool

gluecifer - 2008-09-05 06:48

Hot pick up 928GTS! I've added one of those to my wants list. Good luck sorting her out, and have a gander here for some possible help on the tuner issue.

Please be sure to post your results if you manage to fix it too.

Rock On.

928gts - 2008-09-05 09:29

Its funny Glue,it'll tune just fine but the marker will not move so I'm thinking either a plastic gear has moved out of alignment or a cord has slipped off of its pulley. Thankfully I'm well acquainted with my area's radio stations so I can tune by the seat of my pants.

It works 100% besides that,I might get around to fixing it this weekend. Just have to see if I can find a long enough screwdriver to access the recessed screws.

I used it last night and had Lemon Jelly's 1st Breezeblock mix on while reading a novel for class and I'm really impressed how full and warm this box sounds. It rivals my late 60's Telefunken Bajazzo TS 201 for warmth. The real cone tweeters really help with upper end clarity and such details as accents on the high hat really come out clearly.
