Have a chance at a TRC-975...

A co worker of mine has found a Lasonic TRC-975 locally. As I've talked Lasonics up quite a bit she tells me she will sell it for a "decent" price.I don't think she has a very fixed idea of its value, though. Both decks work although one door eject needs some "encouragement".She describes the general condition as a 6 out of 10.It is missing the mic mixing and balance knobs but is otherwise complete.I am hopefully going over to her place tomorrow morning to take a closer look.If the condition is as stated,I'm still not sure what to offer for the box.

My concern is the fact she is a co worker and friend. She is very much into audio and music.Though she has heard many of my boxes at work, she is still not impressed enough to collect boomboxes herself. This might be because her home and car equipment sound better and she is not under the boombox "spell".Of course I'd like to spend as little as possible. However,I don't want her to look at Ebay prices in the future and feel I wanted to rip her off.So how does the 975 rate as Lasonics go?If it's as she described when I see it tomorrow how high should I go on my offer?

Wow Jovie that's a tough question without seeing the 975 ourselves. If the brief description is accurate I would think anywhere from $100 to $200 is fair for somebody you will continue to see on a regular basis. For a good deal though I would put it more like $25 to $100. Ultimately you both have to be comfortable with the deal no matter what happens in the future.

I like your description of interest in boomboxes as a "SPELL", that's sounds about right. I can't explain it I just want them!!!!! Big Grin

i dont know if someone is selling something and is not willing to chuck a number out first i wouldnt even bother dealing with them.
i mean just ask her what kind of number is she thinking.

masterblaster-thanks for the opinion on a pricing guide line .Those confirm my thoughts also.
billpc55-You and i think alike I can tell Nod Yes I don't like feeling at a disadvantage going into a deal as a potential buyer.Your inclination seem to be mine also.

I really want that box though if the condition is good enough.I hope she doesn't change her mind. Can anybody compare the sound of the 975 to that of the 935?Has anyone heard both?

they way i look at it is this.
if she throws out a price of ten bucks if you give her fifty you look like a hero.
if she throws out a price of 250 bucks then at least you know she is no friend.
heheh

6 out of 10 from a girl who knows nothing on bbx is not a real assumtion. You need to look at it personally. Her 6 out of 10 could be the same as 4 out of 10 for you. Big Grin
