Cool!! we need pics and everyone's prayers.

Dear lord, please let ira have this. If you do, he promises to ... Ho wait wrong religin.

LOL

masterblaster84 - 2009-04-24 10:00

Cool Ira I was watching that one, very flashy box for sure. Most Items arrive without damage but there is no guarantee as skippy found out the hard way, very uncool for sure. I say the odds are in your favor especially if your seller packs well. Communicate and beg, stress, emplore the seller to pack in bubble wrap and double boxes.

Good luck Ira and do share when it arrives. Nod Yes

kittmaster - 2009-04-24 10:02

Looks like I'll need to find my boogie shoes.......LOL

baby.boomer - 2009-04-24 10:14

Maybe it's better you didn't know what you know now until now. You might not have bid and missed the chance to own something you've been wanting for a long time. People who accomplish great things are people who take risks. Sure, things could turn out nasty, and you could be out some cash (although, you seem to be able to fix busted stuff, and these boxes do turn up on eBay from time to time). On the other hand, if the risk pays off, and the thing arrives in the same condition it was in when it left home, just think of the excitement! With stakes that high, it's worth taking a chance, don't you think?

jt - 2009-04-24 10:25

Good luck, Ira!!!

Too funny!

I know you'll be taking that out to the beach at night. Should be interesting.

Can't wait to hear how you think it sounds!!

eric - 2009-04-24 10:33

Ira, let's hope the box will be "stayin' alive" on the trip over, other wise it will be a "tragedy" and then you'll be "jive talkin" because your so mad Laugh Out Loud

baby.boomer - 2009-04-24 10:44

Eric, you sound like you've come down with a serious Saturday night fever! Go out and get yourself a white suit right away!

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 11:52

glad to learn that we have at least one more "saturday night fever" fan Big Grin

which --not surprising -- must have been the inspiration for that big ,obnoxious disco-box Big Grin

-----------------------------
well - both before and after the ebay 'victory'--
i sure did ask, warn, beg , etc the seller for some extra care packing --

i was even about to ask sinister -who lives nearby there, for some of his 'pro style' packing help --

but - just a month ago --i already used-up my once a decade favor from sin Smile Smile

so --its now up to this seller to come thru
Tap Toes

------------------------------

I Agree with BB about the risk thingy --
i have had about 95% good luck on shipping --

but THIS big, cheapo 'black box' -with all those fragile parts -- is , so far --my most likely 'accident-waiting-to-happen' risk Frown Smile
---------------------
normally , to me, the risk is a part of the ebay fun --
unlike buying from our great members here--
the ebay risks are always:

will it ever get here?
will is be smashed?
will SOME things work?? Big Grin
will everything work ?

and, whenever there is a replacement box --often available -down the road -
then all these risks are easy to manage.

but for this rare job --its a most definite RISK.

so - thanks to all for the pep-talks Smile

bredgeo - 2009-04-24 12:11

sinister - 2009-04-24 12:43

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 12:51

sinister - 2009-04-24 13:06

moncheeto - 2009-04-24 14:02

71spud - 2009-04-24 15:59

I have a ticket to CA that I never used.... and probably never will. It has to be used by the middle of May....

What if I were to fly there and pack it myself for you... what kind a ~solid~ would that be???

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 16:05

thanks spud --

a better idea --for your ticket --
is to use it for an LA trip --invite drip and sin , etc to hang out at venice beach-

those guys have GOOD boxes to bring!! Big Grin

fatdog - 2009-04-24 16:18

Ira, you're gonna need more than a pep talk. You're gonna pep-to bismol. Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 16:36

if all this turns out to be any less than perfect --
its the fault of vienna sound Laugh Out Loud Smile

jlf - 2009-04-24 21:12

Venice Beach is a great place to people watch. I'll be there in two weeks...

On to the matter at hand.

It could be a cracked egg already, but being the double negative talking optimist that I am... Im going to say that it will arrive no worse for wear and about as bad as it was when it left. Meaning good. Smile

Im stoked that you won one! I cant wait to get a full report! Assuming that.. er.. that it um...

So you mean like using a LIPO battery? Something from a modern RC car?

The battery I use in this thing takes 30 minutes to charge, and lets it run out at wide open throttle for 40+ minutes. I think it would last at least several hours, if not days in a boombox!

Have you figured how the hook ups, and which battery your going to go with already?

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 21:37

jeff - if i cant find a good 12v hook up --
or enough space , inside, for a little gel-cell --
then it will have to become portable with a tiny inverter.

jlf - 2009-04-24 21:40

There are so many different sizes of good quality batteries these days... Im confident you can find something that will fit into the original battery location on the box.

They are not cheap as Im sure you know... Something lightweight and massively powerful can be very expensive...

What a cool project! I hope you post up every detail my friend!

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 22:11

ok -- but jeff --there might be NO 'original' battery compartment' on that box Confused Smile

johnnygto - 2009-04-24 22:14

There is a bulb storage unit and the battery pack could be installed inside the cabinet with a small charging jack put inside the bulb storage box.

Just my .02

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 22:27

thank you , johnny --
do you have one of these things? Smile

johnnygto - 2009-04-24 22:29

Wink

I can't wait to see your pics, and I'll say a little prayer to the BoomBox GOD for a speedy and safe delivery.

Nice box you're getting there! Smile

viennasound - 2009-04-24 22:45

I also wish you good luck for a safe journey.
And then: Welcome to the disco club! Big Grin
Let us know when it arrives.

Congrats disco-brother. Smile

redbenjoe - 2009-04-24 22:49

thanks VS --just have your 'parts box' ready !! Smile

driptip - 2009-04-25 06:12

Ira,thats a super heavy unit, hopefully makes it in one piece, cross your fingers. Smile

redbenjoe - 2009-04-25 07:23

well - good old dependable sinister was very willing to go get it -and pack it RIGHT and ship it to me --
THANKS dave Big Grin

but -- i decided to 'risk it'

so.............. Tap Toes Smile

viennasound - 2009-04-25 11:23

Good packing is important!! I Agree
I don´t wanna make fear, but the trafos (2 inside) are weak points. Very bad mounted. Mad
The trafo of the lights was fallen out of the holder at mine (only 4 weak clips hold it). Great luck it did´nt smash around inside. Frown
But against the kinetic energy when throwing the parcel around, you can´t do much.
Wish you the best to get it without damage! Wink
