best sounding boombox with cd player and line aux in

bytor - 2009-04-21 09:42

Hi All,

Looking for some advice on the best sounding boombox with a cd player and line/aux in for iPod.

Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone have any info on Casio CD950?

I got a Sharp with cd and line in(model # escapes me now) from Goodwill the other day, even has a remote, but the sound is a bit tinny.

Been collecting for a while, mainly older units, some of the "grails" I see on this site, using iPod and rca's with great success. I just want something to play cd's but have the iPod option. My first radio was a JVC PC X300 and I always loved the sound, still works, bought in or around '88 for almost $700 cdn, at the time probabaly $400 us.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Easy to answer this question:

Buy a JVC Kaboom - this would be the answer of your question ... over the years they there where a lot of different types - first with normal CD-player and tape, the last once with CD-player (also for MP3's) and a line input for ipot's ..., or without a tape and just with a line-input (different types, also USB-sticks) ... this is a great sounding unit. Just the FM-tuner is a bit weak, but that's all ...

Be fast - they just take them out of the JVC progam, and even in germany they where now sold for the double price (new in box)!!! Mybe your hifi-dealer still got one for the normal price (in germany the units without tape where 222,- Euros - just a few weeks ago ...) ...

Best wishes
TOM

if you can find one used the panasonic dt707 is a amazingly good sounding boombox with both cd and line in.
this was a very expensive system when it was new and it was also very well reviewed at the time by audio enthusiast publications.
the kaboom is a very good sounding boombox it is louder than the dt707 honestly tho the dt707 has much nicer sound.

Panasonic Dt680..or any box with a aux input, then just do what i do and fill your mp3 up with music and play it through a blaster,no belts to replace,no dodgy skippy, jumpy faulty lazer to replace..

yep thats a nice one too. those are usually pretty cheap now too.

I will second the RX-DT707 & the RX-DT680. I have a 707 and have heard Ford93's 680.

Can't go wrong with either of those. RX-DT680 has more of the classic look and the removeable speakers...

The 680 hasn't got a line in.
It has CD-OUT, which work as line-in only when the CD is playing (the lines aren't muted by the CD logic). So you need to play a computer CD. But the CD preamp is still over the CD-OUT path, so the signal feeded looses strength.

Bad point for a near perfect boombox.

There are some other Panasonic bi-amped models that have a true line in. I believe some of the DS-XXX models.

Most are very similar to the 680 in terms of sound quality.

Thanks for all of your input. Does anyone know if the Panasonic RX DT600 has an aux in?

isolator42 - 2009-05-06 05:55

the RX-DT610 has CD out which can be used as posted by SUCCESS above. I know 'cos I have one & use it this way quite alot. Looking at a pic of the 600 in the 'base, I'd be surprised if it doesn't have a CD-out that works the same way...

Yeah the JVC Kaboom was FRESH!!! But not as FRESH as the DANCING BEAR in GEOFFHARTWELL'S post!!!

That James Brown split, and that Backflip are killing me!!!!
