Panasonic RX-DT690 - a good one?

hifitom - 2009-01-04 00:40

Hello

I'm thinking about getting a Panasonic RX-DT690 - it looks like a high quality unit.

How does this thing sounds ???
... better than a JVC-Kaboom ???

Best wishes for the new year to all of you!

Two words Tom....GET IT!!! Nod Yes hese are very nice rich sounding units. The DT-690 is an evolution of the 680 which I have. the 680 is a litter richer sounding to me but they are soooooo close. You will love it I promise. Big Grin

As far as a Kaboom...in overall sound The DT-690 will wipe the floor with it. Not in sheer bass which the Kaboom is purposefully built. But it is very bassy. The Bi-Amp/Bi-Wire setup is fantastic. Big Grin

nice going ,tom --
think you will be extreme happy with this panny.

you have many very unique boxes over there -
so your own comparos to the 690 will be interesting

The 690 arrived this morning

After the first soundtest, I will bring the Kaboom back in the living room. Sound is not bad, but the stage is complete missing = I cannot hear the stereo-stage infront of me = no feel that I'm in the middle of the sound which surround me.

Now you would say, ok, it's just a bboombox ... and you are right. But exactly that is the reason why I just collect Hifi-Ghettoblasters, real Hifi-Ghettoblasters. Shure, the Kaboom isn't a Hifi-unit, but it got lots of dynamic, specialy when you didn't turn it so loud you still got a nice bass (it's my everyday one, because it got a CD-player and a remote, so it's easy to handle).

So, I would say: 690 is a good one, but not good enough for me. Every bbox in my collection kicks this thing back home to Japan ...

Best wishes
TOM
