Anticipation

Since Sweden's cast in 24/7 darkness half of the year, and is bright 24/7 the other half, coupled with the fact that we're pagan beer-drinking heathens - the arrival of spring is as much a party here as Chinese New Year in, well, Singapore at least, 'cept we boil it down to a day and limit festivities to University towns.

Though I've finish uni a few years ago, I grew up in Uppsala and studied there and for as long as I can and work load allows, I'll continue to go back there for Walpurgis (30 april). Now, rituals have been updated slightly since the medival ages. It's my official boombox open air season kick-off, i.e. its the first day I consider warm and sufficiently festive enough to bring out a classic, stroll around, drink bear and strutt with a spring in my step (Tiga does get played a lot). Then its open season of course. Last year I took my RC-550, this year its the 9494 that gets to see Uppsala (or that Uppsala gets to see). The whole thing is very ritual, there's even a yearly mixtape thingy with the single rule that the tape has to start with "End of the world as we know it" by REM.

Just wanted to share my excitement with you (although those living in friendlier climates may not fully appriciate the anticipation). God willing (beer lacking?) there will be pictures.

Sounds like a good time, pipsqueak! And yes, pictures would be nice when you can post them. The GF-9494 is an excellent box choice also. Cool

And it was a good time. Best weather since '98. Smile

WOW looks like everyone had a great time. What music were you kicking out of the box?

Well almost everyone did - there usually about 150 000 or so out during the day celebrating and only thirteen arrests during the day. Spirits are usually high. Smile

From recollection:
Lots of bastard pop, some REM, Buck 65, the Pains of being pure at heart, LL Cool J, Cypress Hill, Empire of the Sun, the Field, Popsicle, Brainpool, Weezer, Primal Scream, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Röyksopp, Mates of State, Neon Neon, En Vogue, T. Raumschmiere, 2Unlimited, Jam&Spoon, Chemical Brothers, Black Kids...
