It only takes two!

masterblaster84 - 2009-04-15 08:28

Let me preface with this is not a price bashing thread. I really don't care what this box sold for it's just an example of what happens to prices when two high rollers bid against each other.

Here is a perfect example of what can happen when two people with deep pockets compete for a box. This box would have sold for around $175 without deep pocket competition at the end however two highrollers ran it up to $536 in the last few seconds.
Bolt Box

We know at least two people that don't have a cash crunch and I'm sure there is at least one very happy seller. We've all been stung by just one other bidder and probably many times at that, it takes two to run up an auction.

Of course, the second highest bidder lives in a rat hole in Houston, Texas. Roll Eyes

It's definatly crazy money being dropped. However, if some one has the desire and the moolah to spend that much, God bless them. They are a bigger man then me. Unless that said person is living beyond his means and spends more then he should be affording, then god bless that seller.

Either way, both the winner and the seller are happy. Ma Dukes always told me that you just cant please everyone. Probally the only thing she taught me to stand true through the test of time.

Petey I think you might have missed my point of this thread. It has nothing to do with the selling price, I couldn't care less if it sold for $50 or $5,000. My point really was that it takes two players with deep pockets or credit cards to make boxes sell for high dollar. If only one of these deep pockets were bidding the box would have sold for about $175, since two deep pocket bidders wanted it they ran the sale from what would have been about $175 to $536. These two bidders trippled the selling price in the last few seconds. Whether all parties are happy with the result or not really wasn't part of this post. Smile

baby.boomer - 2009-04-15 12:40

Sometimes, when one bids extra-high at the end of an auction, one simply is trying to jump over the other bids... and never actually expects to pay that much.

However, every now and then the stratgey backfires (so to speak), and the bidder gets blindsided by a speeding, out-of-control bus. If you get my drift.

And yes, the seller is very happy.

masterblaster84 - 2009-04-15 12:43

Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Great way to put it BB.

Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Nod Yes

petey.awol - 2009-04-15 12:50

I did miss the point. I see it now. Two wild cannons bidding at once can really make a seller extremly happy.

The DM4U comments are pretty funny also.

Let's just say that it's more about getting caught with your pants down than about having deep pockets.

billpc55 - 2009-04-15 13:21

auctions like that really arent about values of the item.
its a cyber pissing contest imho.
its a free world and good on both the buyer and seller.
for me tho i kind of find auctions like that along the same lines as someone spending thousands of dollars playing donkey kong to set the high score.
good on them it has value to them, but to most it is totally valueless.
its all personal decisions and choices.
just not for me.

What's a shame is that regular bidders have to pay a king's ransom to pry them out of his greedy clutches.
