Sharp GF-9090 - Newbie...

kidofthe1980s - 2009-05-15 03:41

Hi All

Am new to the forum and its wonderful to read about all the experiences, knowledge you have here! Anycase recently got into boomboxes, always around them as a kid but never own one (was big into walkmans) and hence made my first boombox purchase a few weeks back at a local carboot a Sharp GF-9090 for the grand sum of £10.

Has a few light scratches and dents but nothing serious and everything works fine radio, tape dials...once cleaned up - its now sitting pride of place one of my bookcases - it does look great - shiny ! Smile. Just wondering whether any forum folks could shed some light on the GF-9090, when it was made, how does it compares with other similiar models, manuals, etc ?

Am on the carboot prowl over the weekends for an JVC and Hitachi boombox, not sure what the wife thinks as have too many audio 'toys' as it is...the look on her face when she saw the Sharp on the bookcase... Mad...oh dear...

Be keen to hear from other UK forum members...

Cheers, Kidofthe1980s

Hi Kidofthe1980s - i'm new to here as well - lots of great members on here and a lot of sweet gear Wink

There's some bargins out there, as a couple of years ago people would of just thrown them out and dumped them - now the need for money has put them out in the carboot scene - the only trouble is the old 80's bmx scene was like this - i was the only one around my way that knew about 80's bmx and that some can be worth loads and are nice and rare - but then every body starts putting out any old bmx and thinking there worth a fourtune - now every one is buying them up and putting them on ebay or hoping for a high price - they don't know which is what or love and cherish them like a collector does

I hope this doesn't happen to the ghetto blaster - and i know i'm new here as well, but i do love what i have - from the shape to the sound and not for the price

it's always nice to pick up a bargin at a booty - take it home - clean it up - and enjoy it Wink

cheers B

Hi BendyCat...good to hear from you !

Can't agreed more ! Nothing better than picking up a bargin at a car boot, cleaning it up...
trouble comes sneeking it into the house without the other half finding out... Smile
Over the years managed to find a good number of items - namely game consoles / audio equipment !

Looking forward to this weekend car boot and my next potential boombox...loving the GF-9090...looks and sounds great ! Keen to have another chrome boombox ! Smile

Cheers, Kidofthe1980s

no problem Smile

to make sure, check the serial number label on the back, first figure is the year (7 - 1977, 8 - 1978... etc), next two - month (01 - january... etc).
