If i could swear right now i would, thats a frikkin bargain for a 5 spot,i thought i got a bargain when i paid £10 for mine, got mine bout 5 years ago,carbooty..i skipped all the way home smiling..the only thing you gotta watch with the big heavy philips is the weak handle,i had an 8644 and 8734 in the late 80s and the handle snapped on both because the could`nt take the weight,my mate also had a 8644 and his handle snapped aswell..

Great find, great price!

This is the biggest Philips ever (they ever produced)! Got a lot of goodies, sounds nice - so what's wrong about it? ...

Best wishes
TOM

Nah No one will hate you man,if anything,they/we/i will thank you for rescuing them from the crusher..
Good prices,i think everyone wishes they can find ghettos for those prices..
Well done on the cleaning,i used to also do that,i`de wait til everyone went to bed, then i would get my stereo`s out and spend hours cleaning them..good fun and relaxing..

Nothing wrong with 3-piece units mate, only got to see grails like the Panasonic RX-C100 or Fisher 492 to reinforce that fact Smile

I love single units but as already stated the 3 piecers can sound considerably better due to the 'proper' speaker enclosures rather than a hollow plastic shell.

Seriously! I agree with Ghettoman! Good for you, getting these boxes for such good prices! You should feel fortunate, not guilty!

No hate!!!!

I have found in the past that i would rather hunt a good find than rather pay for a high price on ebay (no offence to those who do - i do buy high if i really need/want) but there are a lot of ways to pick up hi-fi goods cheap - carboots and dumps - most people nowadays want small and compaqued items - where as i find beauty in the things that were designed to be shown and loved - the art in what it looks like and how it works - this for me is a 80's thing - a time of where things were made to be seen - just like my bmx's that i love - nowadays thing are so easy to make and change so fast - it seems the good time are lost or hard to find, that's why we have place's like here = kids have it too easy - if we had one boombox/ghettoblaster then we were happy - kids want to change things every month and then don't want what hey have and just throw/sell/swap so easy, when we would of used and loved that item in to the ground or until it fully broke !

so i don't mean to offened, but there is a lot of cheap items out there if you look hard enough for them - get out there and have some fun finding them !
cheers B Wink

Mee too jared, frikk ripoffbay..80% of the time,i`ve found egay to be a rippoff, just like last week when i bought my rising 007,the guy said it was mint, when i got it,deck jammed up because of old worn belts, crackly volume beyond beleif, and speaker rott..

soo...
i`ll say to you bendycat, you keep on those carboots man..keep on getting those boxes for cheap, wish i had that much luck..your doing good work for the Ghetto community by rescuing these things and giving them good homes..

Bendycat, that's an excellent stash for really good prices, nice one Smile

As for the monster Philips 3pc: excellent!

There are some purists who frown a bit on the 3pc boomboxes, but most are happy so long as they have a handle & take batteries.
3pc boomboxes often sound better due to their having dedicated speaker enclosures, & your Philips is no exception, with it's wooden speakers.
A friend of mine had this one back in the 80s & it sounded fantastic.
Here's the info from my 1984 Philips catalogue:

btw, whereabouts in Surrey are you? As you can see, I'm from Surrey too...
