The five rarest boomboxes?!

ysnow - 2009-01-01 17:28

What are for you guys the five rarest and the five best boomboxes?

fatdog - 2009-01-01 18:03

This question might not be well received by the mods here. There used to be a list of "grails" and their rankings. The list was eventually used by eBay sellers to inflate the prices of boomboxes. I imagine any such lists here will only add fuel to the fire.

monolithic - 2009-01-01 18:06

I Agree Forgot about that for a second! Big Grin

redbenjoe - 2009-01-01 18:07

r.o.y.a.l - 2009-01-02 03:06

that bright red vz 2000 from japan seems pretty rare !

jvc.floyd - 2009-01-02 06:09

the silver rc 550 ?

baby.boomer - 2009-01-02 06:52

Three that have been shared in this forum before...

(Japanese) Victor RC-M70GX Even rarer than the rare M75. So rare that I've never seen one for sale and don't know of anyone who owns one.

(Mexican) Panasonic RX-5104. Pretty much just an RX-5100, but made in Mexico with writing in Spanish

(Korean) Dae Ho Carnival DH-02. A made-in-Korea-for-Korea copy of the Sharp GF-9000, but with dual cassette

isolator42 - 2009-01-02 07:35

This one:

Only ever seen the one I owned in the 80s.
A similar one turned up on eBay Austria a while back & I missed it, because the search from eBay UK didn't find it. I've learned from that mistake Frown

tiko - 2009-01-02 13:33

In this list, I would may be (no brag) my CSC-945L Crown ... is not it?
CROWN CSC-945L
or this:
THE FIGHT!

skippy1969 - 2009-01-02 13:44

Another rare one is this Sanyo M9500K that I own. Thanks Doity!! Big Grin

ysnow - 2009-01-02 15:42

Cool nice one!

jlf - 2009-01-02 15:49

Hundreds of boxes could be considered 'rare'. Even those with no value.

I think back to the stories Arkay used to tell... stacked boxes ten high, ten deep, ten across, just waiting to be shipped to parts unknown.

Seems to me someone had a photo of this once... Henry maybe? No... Maybe it was Rambo after his Hong Kong visit?

No telling WHAT was in those stacks waiting for new owners! Im talking strange things... the kind of boombox that populates the darkest corners of the BoomBoxDataBass! Smile

- 2009-01-02 19:38

That silver Bombeat is crazy Eek

-gsbadbmr

ford93 - 2009-01-02 21:29

I know the Telefunken HP 800 is rare here in the U.S. I believe only two people have it.

I myself own one and Transamguy but I could be wrong.

Another one is the Toshiba Bombeat 40 RT-S913 black beauty!

transwave5000 - 2009-01-02 22:12

Hard to say what is rare.
Might depend where you are, what country.
Some of the boxes that were dime-o-dozen have been thrown in the garbage and hard to find now.
.
.
This one I got the other day, is probably worthless, but who has one of these?

.
.

Exactly! Here in Australia, for example, Lasonic never distributed any of their products, so down here ANY Lasonic ghettoblaster is more of a rarity than even a Conion C-100F as they actually had a local (albeit limited) local distribution.

This is one of the reasons why I had a TRC-931 in my top 5 personal grails, it's all relative to your location.

Rock On.

I used to have that one in black. And a few other Akai's too.... Wink My old Akai thread.

petey.awol - 2009-01-03 05:30

People are telling me that the Sanyo M-X820K I found is a rare bird. You all would know better then I. I mean I haven't seen one until I met the stranger who sold it to me.

redbenjoe - 2009-01-03 08:14

skippy1969 - 2009-01-03 08:20

Um oh yah sorry..... that MX-820 is a dime a dozen, sold on every street corner........ Big Grin Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

petey.awol - 2009-01-03 09:02

Haha. Ira, the cat's out the bag. I kind of knew something was up when I first posted a topic of it when I intially got it. The messages pour in from folks whom I have never had the chance to make aquaintences with here.

I'm going to trade the sucker for a frigging working floor heater at this rate, because its frozen up in NYC.

Exactly which street corner would that be? I've got some frequent flyer miles that are aching to be redeemed!

kittmaster - 2009-01-03 09:05

I agree with the gold conion

It's like my name in Frodo and I have some ring people be after. We can end the debate instantly with an M-90 swap. (Wishful thinking.)Or I can just toss it in some weird ass volcanic mountain hole. HAHA. (Lord Of The Ring reference.....?)

jlf - 2009-01-03 09:35

Ive gotta think any Marantz bbx is rare here... even with the California connection as stated on the back of each and every one! Smile

Add to that, Ive never seen a Grundig, or a Telefunken, although I guess in some parts of Europe (Germany), people trip over them in the street because there are so many. Smile

henrytai - 2009-01-03 09:45

100% RC-M70GX Big Grin

ysnow - 2009-01-03 11:52

Tap Toes whats the difference between that one and the JVC RC-M70L ??? Confused

tpr - 2009-01-03 16:40

If famous boxes are meant ---

This might be a rare one :--(owned by RADIOHIER)

the itt-rc8800 super woofer IBBN 7-12571

In autumn 1985 on the GE market for DM749

aka:
sanyo#-mr-x20 big ben IBBN 7-02188 ,two band type=(in Japan sold 1984 for yen97,800)

aka:
sanyo#-mx960 super woofer IBBN 7-05309 ,4 bands

tpr - 2009-01-03 16:49

this one is also very rare(RADIOHIER owns 2 of them!)

Blaupunkt`s only stereo boombox.

the blaupunkt-kcr800 IBBN 7-05291(super rare)

aka:
itt-touring120 IBBN 7-00524(often on auction)

(with led instead of needle meters...)

ghettoboom777 - 2009-01-03 17:19

Hi *TPR*-Those are insane!!
It's a ITT version of the Big Ben! Very, very cool!
I also can't beleive that Blaupunkt Boombox-Man I'd love to have one of those.Never knew there was one.
Thanks for those super rares!!-GB. Nod Yes

ysnow - 2009-01-03 17:27

Thanks yeah!!! I love the Blaupunkt too! Big Grin It's so their style!

monolithic - 2009-01-03 17:56

After I deleted my first post, I figured I wouldn't play this game because of the "best boxes" part of the topic. But since the focus is on boxes that nobody here will ever own Big Grin , I'll re-post this gem:

the black Toshiba BomBeat 40. Cool

You'll NEVER find that on eBay... and if you do, prepare to go broke buyin' it 'cause I don't bid to lose! Wink

tpr - 2009-01-03 18:13

very nice....I love this one!

Nevertheless: RADIOHIER strikes back again... Big Grin Laugh Out Loud

monolithic - 2009-01-03 18:18

RADIOHIER seems to own the rarest of the rarest boxes around! Nod Yes

It must be good to be him. Cool

- 2009-01-03 21:17

Man i LOVE that Bombeat Big Grin

Another box i have never seen before is my badged Tecsonic J-2 Jumbo...and it's LOUD!

-gsbadbmr

hifitom - 2009-01-04 03:38

Hello

My personal list for the rares bboxes - after all the time collecting, I never saw a second one of those:

- Mars JH 100
(big and heavy unit, just to use with a wheelbarrow)
- Rotel RPM-10
(high quality sound - as good as the Telefunken M1)
- Marantz 53
(James Bond Micro-Boombox)
- Kenwood DC 20 - El Poco
(the complete unit with flightcase)
- Uher mini port
(the silver once are very rare - ... with real Hifi sound)
- Universum Senator hifi system 1000
(same unit like the Uher mini port with other speakers and knops)
- Kenwood RX-8
(nice little HQ-bbox - saw it once Toshiba labeled)

Best wishes to you all for the new year!
Tom

bredgeo - 2009-01-04 12:24

Sharp GF 9191..... Very hard to come by... Big Grin

Yes that was a joke, a story with a humorous climax! Leaving

jt - 2009-01-04 13:08

As a whole, I'd have to say Sansui boomboxes are quite rare. I hardly ever see them crop up on eBay.

I've also noticed that the JVC PC-3 & PC-5 seem to be pretty rare as well...

(I know, I know... I sound like Oldskool69!)

Yes you do! Big Grin I was holding off but you are right about the Sansui's especially. Nod Yes

Vector's are another one that's rarely seen though one popped up a couple of months ago on the 'Bay.
