Prices arnt what they used to be!

jlf - 2008-12-29 17:42

Here's proof...

I bought this for $150 today:

Now its my first 9292 ever, so maybe Im wrong... but it seems like prices just arnt what they used to be!

I remember these, and also 9191's selling for quite a bit more than what I paid!

Its not perfect, as the cassette is non working, but what else is new?

So my GF collection grows... and Im thinking its a good time for us collectors again!

I know some of you have bought very well recently!

I hope you're right Jeff Nod Yes

Ya, I've noticed it as well. JVCs have lost a lot in value - just look at what M70s and M90s are selling for the last couple of months! Eek

Excellent score JLF, you got a great radio there, at a very reasonable price!

Even on .au ebay things haven't been as ridiculous recently, but I'll attribute it to xmas time and not so many people buying things for themselves. I picked up a very, very lovely condition Crown CSC-960F for less than US$60 over the weekend before xmas for instance.

But then again, this guy, and his astronomical prices manages to make things crazy again.

Lovely radios, but really, well out of my 'reasonable' price range.

Rock On.

It's the economy. Which means tighter bids. Where a group may have had max bids of $500 you now have that group joining the $200 max crowd. Smile

Right!

The grails will always remain high, or higher than the others... but you start moving any direction of personal interest in brands, sizes, features, power away from the center bulls eye, and the prices seem to drop off quite a bit.

A market correction perhaps, aided in part by Christmas season shopping, as well as the economy woes. I remember a year ago when non or almost grail boxes were commanding good money.

I held the record on ebay for a short while on the highest price ever for a Lasonic. Sure it was nice, but it wasnt new in the box nice! At almost $500 I was totally shocked, and didnt think anyone would ever get more for theirs, but it only took a month at the most for another seller to crash through my glass ceiling!

Im totally stoked to get my new 9292! I cant wait to hear it, and give it a bath. Can you believe Im most excited about that cassette door sticker? My second GF with that still intact! Smile

EDIT: Ive been watching that seller, and he does have some great stuff for sale! He has even sold a few in the past week or two! If he gets that much for his Marantz though... Im putting mine up the very next day for the same amount! Ha!

Congrats on the 9292!!That price is really good for one of these Smile

Agreed also on the part that prices has come down -- still it seems like this phase is in the early beginning.

This box reminds me of the Sanyo M9994. I am curious to hear one, to see how the sound compares.

Just look at this example of a lasonic trc975 that sold for $810 a couple months ago and this trc975 that has been on ebay for a few weeks(comes with a box) at $850 and no one wants it Confused http://cgi.ebay.com/LASONIC-TRC-975-vintage-boombox-Ghe...C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageNam...IT&item=110330929854

I recently picked up a Sharp 9494 (the one with chrome speaker caps) not the best condition ever, but fair and all working, for 38 UK Pounds so I'm not complaining!
Seen these go for much much more in the past.

I think the attitude is why buy that when you can wait a minute and get one in great condition for less than half that price (I've seen about 4 or 5 TRC-975's in the past 6 months sell for around $400). Sure, it might not come with the original box and all that other stuff, but so what. At the end of the day, the boombox itself is all that matters to the buyer. Everything else is just a bonus.
