U.S. / Canadian Differences ?

Wanted to know why U.S. versions of some boombox's have different specs than the Canadian version of the same model? Example; my Sony CF-580 is listed at 2.9 watts per channel output, Canada. The U.S.version is listed at a much lower 1 watt per channel output.

Also - Is there any other way to tell the difference from the outside besides the UL sticker(U.S. models) and the Canadian Electronics sticker on models sold in Canada.

I'm going out on a limb here, because I'm speaking just from my own experience... but...

Canadian boomboxes seem to be single voltage: 120v. US and world issue boomboxes often (but not always) were sold with a multi-voltage adjustment. I suspect there was some Canadian electronics regulation responsible, probably meant to keep consumers from causing damage by using the wrong voltage. Or keep them from burning down the house!

Baby Boomer, you haven't gone out on a limb, because you are exactly right!!! In most "Foreign" countries, their voltage rating is different than ours.

We just have the flexability to be able to switch most of our stuff from 120v to 220v if need be.

So don't worry about falling out of the tree!!! Smile
