well it's been quite a while since i posted.. but i still read the boards and watch stuff on the Bay.. but is it me.. or have the prices to ship boomboxes gotten a bit outa control.. 50-60 dollars to ship just within the U.S. what really kills me is that they want 500-1000 dollars for some rare/common boomboxes but they wont ship for free? silly.. thats one of the reasons why i shop local (Craigslist) no more praying it will make it to me in one piece.. and no more sky high shipping charges.. i've found a few beauts locally.. and since i pick it up myself.. no fear of damages.. i hope i'm not the only one who feels this way.. i know shipping companies are trying to make up for lost income.. so perhaps this is what there charging to ship.. but 50-60 dollars.. i dont know.. anyways just had to rant a little.. still love the board and all you guys.. peace out.. we have the same prob in the UK with trying to ship from the US or places like that Roll Eyes

in the UK we can use couriers and it can start from around £7 but most just use a guide of £25 which i think is just too much Roll Eyes

it's when it comes down to insurence and what type of way it is sent that the price goes up and company's make there money - "you want us to stop kicking it around and give it respect you got to pay more" Laugh Out Loud

you can find a nice box for around $60 but then trying to get it back you can pay $100 + so then it kills that good price you get it for

one way around this for you in the US is to find a good cheap courier that you can trust or you have used before and offer to "use/sort out your own courier" they might go for that ?

As far as shipping - here's my experience. It costs about $15 just to get a nice sturdy box, foam and peanuts. And then it costs $40-50 to ship it. The only time the price of shipping is low is when there's virtually no packing inside the box, and the box itself is small - because carriers charge based on size and weight. As I try to pack nice - it never cost me less than $50-60 total to ship a boombox.

Material should be free. Go to your local supermarket or any store and you should find a box. Wrap the boombox in a plastic bag and stuff the carboard box with crumbled newspaper.

well the real point i'm trying to make is.. if your paying 500-1200 bucks for a boombox.. they should at least be kind and include shipping for free.. of coarse i would never pay that much for a boombox myself.. and not only that.. but making shipping free might help in selling your high priced boombox quicker.. just my opinion anyways..

I agree, I buy my shipping boxes off the internet in bulk and peanuts by 14 cu.ft. at a time to save money. I also ship in a large enough box to hopefully insure damage free arrival.

It's not cheap to ship nowadays, if I have to pay to ship and offer free shipping.. you can bet the price is adjusted for it.

This is not a good way at all to ship a 25 year old piece of electronics Eek If wrap a boombox in crumbled newspaper and put it inside a used box from a supermarket - more than likely poor boombox will arrive shattered in pieces

Ya, I agree with Johnny - if I offer free shipping - I adjust the price accordingly - shipping just costs too much nowdays!!
