Calling US members: Can you help me?

isolator42 - 2008-08-12 06:09

Hi there, I'm after a bit of a favour here from one of you lovely people in the USA.

Long story short, I want a Lasonic i931 for my 9 year-old lad. He'll go bonkers for it Smile

Waiting for someone to start selling them in the UK has gone on long enough, but my trouble is, I can't find any reputable US retailer who'll ship me one for less than a small fortune. Even then I'm in a world of hurt if it gets damaged in transit (a similar story on eBay).

So, is there anyone of you kind & wonderful Americans Smile who can give me a costing for picking one up brand new from a store (retail, online, whatever's best/cheapest), then boxing it up (so then it's double-boxed) & shipping it to me in the UK?
If you can find one that's on sale at a discount (millionbuy.com, etronics.com) & can use a courier that isn't massivly expensive (no rush for a delivery time) that would leave me more money to recompense you for your efforts on my behalf Smile

Paul , keep in mind that these are US voltage only.

USPS Priority Mail to the UK:
10 lbs: $53 USD
12 lbs: $59 USD
15 lbs: $68 USD

Seems quite reasonable to me.

The size of the box being shipped determines the class along with the weight with USPS. Smile

You can borrow my big & safe "Gorilla case" to ship it. It kept my 492 safe all the way to Kyryzstan. lot's of foam it it and I'm in no hurry to get it back. (maybe a lil' overkill- but just offering.) Wink

Their website does not have a space for dimensions. Also if I recall correctly it doesn't jump up in price unless the box is like 100" something in combined length and girth. A boombox isn't very big.

WHOAH.....excellent deal......Isolator let me know if that works for you, otherwise I'll send one to you, but it seems like that right there is your best deal

isolator42 - 2008-08-13 03:23

you guys are great - thanks for the help.

I'm looking into that Amazon deal - but the shipping is confusing me.
Etronics quote 49.99 per shipment & 4.89 per pound. The shipping weight is stated as 19lbs. So would I pay the 49.99, or 19 x 4.89 (92.91)?

I've emailed Etronics for confirmation, but if you have experience with this I'd value your opinions...

djyetix - 2008-08-13 04:14

If you import this new unit into EU, be carefull with the customs office. I heard a story from our stupid german customs office, that they testet the Lasonic with 230 Volts and burned the transformer but they said nothing to this incident...

enskanker - 2008-08-13 06:12

Iso,

Consider this idea....

Check your prices from Germany to you. I can do an APO cheap to Germany and have my sister forward to you...

PM if you wish to proceed...over and out.

isolator42 - 2008-08-13 06:51

Of course you guys are all correct about the lack of European (220/240V) input AC. However it does have a 12V dc in that I can use. I've got a couple of AC/DC adaptors which can supply the 60W the spec says it may need.

If there's any evidence of it being opened at all, I'll refuse delivery, as damaged. I often don't just sign & make the guy wait while I open it up. It's the only defence you have.
Might have to pay import duty, however Frown

you're not going to believe this: shipping to the UK is 4.89 per pound PLUS 49.99 Red Face
That's US$142.90! more than the cost of the b-box.
Sod that.

Ed, I've sent you a PM Smile

isolator42 - 2008-08-14 09:54

My search is over, thanks all for your help.

Ed you are a gentleman & a scholar, I don't care what all the others say Big Grin
