Worst Box ? dam you ugly and sound crap !

bendycat - 2009-06-30 13:55

ok, so we've had the best boxes and best company's threads, but now some thing new for you to answer if you can

what's the worst box you have owned or every heard or seen ?

so you can score this on sound or looks

if you can't say - is there one in your collection that is your least fav ? one that you don't look at much of has a bad enough sound that you just don'y play it ?

so come on lets here what you think Wink

cheers B

To me the box with the worst sound is the Unisef SZ-500. I think this is the model, IS the one that looks like a Lasonic TRC-931, This Unisef boombox is a Horrible sounding boombox cranck it more and more and uyou'll hear the rattling on the case. Don't get me wrong I think is a good looking box great to stare at, But that's, And I bought mines brand new with new duracell batteries, At first I thought it was the batteries, But even plugging in disn't help. The most uglies boombox to me it has to be those mono boomboxes with the disco lites yuk Leaving.

Until pointed out I could have easily mistaken that unisef for the Lasonic in e-bay.

This one is a bit hard for me,coz i have`nt had a total fugly box,i`ve had one or 2 nice looking ones but sounded sh@t..

This may sound crazy but I have to say the worst sounding blaster I ever had for the money was the JVC RCM80. I bought an RCM 70 in 1980 and in '81 I bought an RCM 80. I thought that I would get the sound out of the RCM 70, with the extra cool features of the RCM 80, like the LED tuner and such. But it sounds tinny and crap. I sold it and learned that a later model doesn't mean it's better. Like cars, dig? Paul

I'm hip Gettoman!!! I've always been very selective about what I've bought. I'd always give a Box a thorough Test run before purchasing it. But let me think about it for a minute and I'll come back with an answer later.

Good topic though, Bendycat!!!

I´ve got this Unisef SZ-4000.
It matches your description: looks bad, feels cheap, sounds like it looks.
I cant find a picture of this model on the net and I fear when I try to take one by myself my camera will break. But I found a youtube video.

I watched the video you posted, drmz. dig that crazy equalizer(if that's what you call it). u think u got six bands and "voila"! It's only three!! LOL Laugh Out Loud And what is up with that tape deck demonstration...Do u really need to know it sounds just as "crappy" when you copy from one side to the other? I know little about BBx's but this is not very good quality.

You´re right. The eq´s are fake and its the same thing with FM/AM. It looks like you have a long scale but actually its two short scales for AM and FM side by side. Between 88Mhz and 108Mhz is only 3cm room to pick a station. This radio is a joke.
Same thing with the tape controlls. Being a designer I´m a fan of "less is more" but lets see what we´ve got here: no "pause" buttons on both tapedecks? left tapedeck for recording only (makes no sense for me because it would be more natural to copy from left deck to right deck like reading/writing from left to right side of the paper...) the left tapedeck only got record and stop button. right tapedeck has got play, stop, ffw, rwd. Never saw such a thing on a boombox.
And the worst thing for me are rectangular speakergrills with yellow/brown foam behind the grill that you cant see the speakers. I think they tried to make it look futuristic. Roll Eyes

Although the looks aint that bad, that sound is rubbish,i bet you wont find a box with as crappy sound as this,as for bass,i`ve had tweeters with more bass than this..looks kool, sounds unbelevably sad..

I'll vouch for the crappy Sanyo! That was the first box that I bought back in '85-'86. I though it was an up-grade from the Panasonic mono box that I already had. Boy was I wrong! Stupid detachable speakers would fall off if you bumped them when you were carrying it! Middle speaker doesn't work when left speaker is plugged in. Cheapo build quality from Sanyo. It's gone now, ironically I still have the Panasonic mono box and it still works great.
