What Model Magnavox Is This And What Variations

oldskool69 - 2008-06-06 08:25

Hey guys n' gals! I won this off of eBay last night since I was up at 1:00am. (See what happens when you eat way too many banana peppers on a sub!) What model is it and how many variants or twins were there? Thanks for the help! Big Grin

similar to (but not the same as) the one in Beat Street ...which I don't know the model number of either, so that was loads of help Smile

Yep, a Phase 3. You are correct as the one in Beat Street has a tone control while this one has bass and treble. There is another model that has an EQ, but with speakers this small I can't see the benefit. Maybe Jens can layout pics of all the sister models to this.

Jens? Big Grin

I remember being completely underwhelmed by that box when I first saw it. So many other more inspirational models could've been used. Oh well, Beat Street was always much deeper than just being about radios though. Even if this is shown within the first minute...

OldSkool69's variation destroys it.

Sorry, I'm no help on this topic either.

C'mon Gluc...don't hate! Appreciate! I'm really a component system fan (as you would tell by my collection) but I do have some one piece units too. That's why I bid on it. I knew it wasn't the same (and obviously could not remember the model number) but I knew where the series had been and that Magnavox basically had movie rights for product placement.

The real surprise is that Panasonic did not. As you know, all DJ's worth a damn were running Technics MK1200's. So I was surprised as well.

In the other hip hop movies there were all kinds of boxes. Not necessarily a single brand. I think this is unique to Beat Street.Big Grin

Skool is in!

That's awesome stuff to know. I guess there's always going to be politics going on behind the scenes for such products in genre movies like that.

...I still don't dig the box though, but I do appreciate it much more!

Your humble student Rocks on.

i had one of these that you won OS69.. unlike most Magnavox boomboxes.. this one is quite heavy and has excellent sound.. i was very surprised at the biuld quality.. very unlike Magnavox.. you wont be dissapointed with it.. just make sure they unhook the speakers before shipping as the post that held the speakers on mine were damaged.. Appreciate the heads up! Glad to hear it's a solid unit too. Got it for a song! Big Grin

I know what you mean - there's a GF777 in the however-did-it-miss-out-on-an-oscar film Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Still, if Magnavox in the USA had the same market space as Philips in Europe, it's a more realistic choice, being amongst the cheapest which were any good. It was owned by a kid from a poor background, I believe.
You always got plenty of sound per pound with a Philips/Magnavox Smile
