can you name it??
I can~!!

but i hv no idea about the lettering....
any way it sounds as it should~~

jvc.floyd - 2008-12-22 14:08

ouch that hurts to look at ,i hope you can restore it.

fatdog - 2008-12-22 14:18

Henry, I'll give you $50 plus shipping. Nod Yes

skippy1969 - 2008-12-22 14:22

It is ugly, but it looks complete and restorable. Great M90 Henry!!! Eek Eek

billpc55 - 2008-12-22 14:28

well i kind of like how that boombox is right now. i mean its pretty rough but it does look pretty well loved.
so yeah. how could one restore that. there looks like a ton of oxidation on the original finish. that has not been sprayed. this being said i think that you could remove most of that paint.
some of it would probably be removed by a product called peel away seven pretty easily.
spray paint is almost never applied in a thick coat people are cheap by nature.
this being said beneath the spray paint the finish is most likely ruined.
i wouldnt let it discourage the attmept tho. i mean its a beaten boombox for sure. theres a lot of work there but it is complete.
you could also go for a tasteful respray.
i have a feeling those speakers are probably in need of some attention as well.but hey thats a whole other thing.
its great you saved it.
you should have some fun with it.
i like it.
even in its bad bad bad custom paint scheme ugliness.
its a survivor. so thats cool.

reli - 2008-12-22 15:06

I would re-paint it with your own custom job. Maybe urban camo, or pinwheels on the speaker grills.

jvc.floyd - 2008-12-22 15:07

hell i would try a mild cleaner and a tooth brush and scrub it till the ugly was gone.it might take a while but i'm patient lol.

redbenjoe - 2008-12-22 15:57

At least it works right!

If it doesnt come off easily... Im all for the Urban Camo suggestion on paint!!!

viennasound - 2008-12-22 23:00

Strange what people do with their radios.... Eek

I hope you can restore it.

r.o.y.a.l - 2008-12-22 23:34

I've just called the RSPCB . it's O.K, we'll get these monsters.

analogboi - 2008-12-23 06:10

I agree with Reli and JLF Nod Yes

Clean it up and make it your own...

henrytai - 2008-12-23 12:26

is it possible to respray it??
coz i dun know how to draw the lettering. . .
maybe fatdog can help me out?
Nod Yes

billpc55 - 2008-12-23 12:57

if i was gonna respray that and i could do anything i wanted. i think i would paint it. black. polish the chrome and clear coat it afterwards.
camo could be cool too. camo is just not me tho. meh its your box you should do what makes you happy.

masterblaster84 - 2008-12-23 13:18

Wow Henry, that's a blank canvas. There's the rare M90 that you can do anything to and it would be better than it is. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Nod Yes

blasterpunk - 2008-12-23 17:42

I love it, like it is. Nod Yes

My suggestion...

Complete case disassembly.

Clean off and polish up the chrome. If that does not come clean enough for you, then paint those parts metallic silver.

Polish the clear plastic as good as you can.

I'd go with a metallic charcoal color (automotive quality) paint for the case plastic and either metallic silver or solid black for the speaker covers and the knobs and switches. That woudl probably depend on how clean the chrome gets.

The mid section looks pretty much unpainted, just dirty... Would it clean up good enough to be left as is? If you don't want to paint over the lettering (completely understandable) then maybe you could just clean up that mid section very good and get it looking as close to new as possible.

Once all the parts are painted and the mid-section is clean, clearcoat the entire box with multiple coats!

Then reassemble and sell it as a designer M-90 for $2000 on eBay!!!!

I think I'm going to try to do something similar with mettalic blue on my beater GE box... (but not gonna sell)

Good luck whatever you end up doing!

jvc.floyd - 2008-12-23 19:29

as much as i hate that paint job ,it's still an m90 bottom line is its still better than most boomboxes ,not all but damn near the best there is.

ford93 - 2008-12-23 19:41

I would love to see that box restored with the original color and lettering.

I myself would like to do it on mine but I'm afraid I might make a mistake.

jvc.floyd - 2008-12-23 20:13

the best part of it looking the way it does is no one would suspect how beastly it sounds ,you could still dole out some misery with it either way.

eddy - 2008-12-24 01:09

Maybe another idea. Paint it with piano black paint with gold lettering. ( Like the Technics SL 12OO LTD)

henrytai - 2008-12-24 11:58

i still hv no idea about the lettering
can i make it?

ford93 - 2008-12-24 12:00

Henry PM Fatdog he might be able to help you.

panasonic.fan - 2008-12-26 07:13

I think Ned could do some interesting things with it.

bredgeo - 2008-12-28 02:44

Were is ned??????

That M90 can be cleanded up for sure.... Lettering could be a problem....

billpc55 - 2008-12-28 12:31

you can get all kinds of tranfer decals for the lettering from a model shop.
this use them to make scale model signs and such.

henrytai - 2008-12-28 13:47

billpc55~ you're the one~!!thanks~!!
