The Yamaha AST-10 arrived - soundtest ...

hifitom - 2009-04-29 10:46

Hello

I already owned two head units of this carry combo, but never find the speakers to this high quality babe. Shure, some of you will say it's no real ghettoblaster because it don't work with batterys, but it has got a handle, so it's a stereo to go (to me).

So I finaly found a complete unit (with remote) and after I first pushed the power button I couldn't believe what sound pushed out of these small speakers. Wooooooooow, all I can say it's a fat sounding unit. Lot's of power (to much at high volume for the speakers when the bass is full in), but a dynamic others would dream of. Great sub bass, stage is ok. If you listen to it at normal volume you could compare it with a home-hifi-unit. Very, very nice!

Specialy if you are a Kaboom-fan - you could compare the dynamic with it, just the sound of the Yamaha is way better, because the sound is more nutral, not so exaggerated like the JVC but got the same deap bass ...

I'm very happy with it and wanne tell you: if you find such a unit for little money, go for it!!!

Best wishes
TOM

I Agree
with you ,about the deep and very powerful bass-
excellent sound all the way --

very rare -- but when they do come up -- they dont sell for big $$.

hifitom - 2009-04-29 12:06

That's right,

and I don't understand this. So it's a great chance for everybody to catch a coming classic for little money. Sound will blow you away - no joke! One of the best mobil units I ever heard ...

Somebody told me that they where very expensive when new (?). I would love to know when this unit was built, facts about the power, and the price when new ... Jens???

Cool Jens! Thanks man ...!!!

Wow, 2 x 50 Watts on 8 ohms? That's a lot ... and 2300,- DM ... puhhh, can't believe that!

To the speakers: I know that Yamaha produce this speakers you listed as active once for PC. Mine also have a bass-reflex-system, but it's under the speaker ... just can tell you once again: this thing sounds great! ...

Thanks again Jens!
TOM

If 2300DM was about $800 US back then, Jens would be correct. These were not cheap compo systems.

Hello and congrats on the purchase there. It looks like a nice piece. I think I see a few extra buttons under the display on the second piece shown there. Maybe just a slight difference but very similar. I was curious, as all "cats" are, and searched e-bay, maybe you could get this pair as a back-up http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-VINTA...7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 or an addition. They didn't sell the first go-around. Call or write them and see what they would do. Good luck.

jam.the.box - 2009-04-29 20:11

You're welcome. I have another topic here about my Panasonic with an auto-reverse problem and just wanted to be worth my salt in case I receive some technical assistance with my problem. Wink

Oh, well in that case, let me apologise for having insulted you so.

I am sure that with this apology your standing as a knowledgable all powerful boombox meister has been restored.

Or, you could just look up 'sarcasm' in the english dictionary.
