http://www.masoportunidades.com.ar/aviso/3903973-radiog...r-hitachi-del-ano-80

What hitachi is it ?

I like the BBX, but How does it sound ?. It's really important too.
Some BBX I've heard to make a comparacion are the JVC 838, the M70, the RX5600 and the RX5200

Thanks People !!!

Jens, what about the production year of this unit ?

What about the sound quality, bass and highs ?

I love the front loking. The black color and tweeter/speaker arrangement remains me the RS4300, of course the 4300 is better.

SHEETS DATED - NOVEMBER 1st 1978 - PART 1 + NOVEMBER 8th 1978 - PART 2
MKI,MKII-versions

I E-net base repair review:
"HITACHI TRK 8080
Intermittent loss of one channel then no transport
Someone with sentimental attachement to this 20 year old
ghetto blaster wanted it repaired. The channel loss
was due to corroded/distorted contacts on the phones jack socket and the
motor was totally defunct.This mechanical
flywheel governed motor was replaced with an electronic governed motor
with direction reversed by cutting tracks and reversing the leads to the
actual motor and a change of pulley
as well as adjustment of speed pot to get the right rpm."

I really like the design of this box with it's slanted top-mounted tuner window. I like the red 'power on' LED above the tape deck, and the woofers which look like they're out of a guitar amp.

Thanks Jens.

Hi SUCCESS, I've pick up exactly that model of hitachi before couple of week on flea.
Its nice looking box, I was lucky to find him in good shape for only 8 euros, also its sounding very good.
Its worth to get it. Nod Yes

That one has small chrome caps, my 'W' has big black ones and looks really cool. Wink

The 8080 is one of my favourite boxes, and it sounds nicer than the 8200, 8290 and 8600 in my opinion. Nod Yes Stereo wide is impressive. Smile

oh!well, it could have been printed 77 and maybe sold 78(?!)
Not sure bout the exact release date. It`s in the manuals bible registered with a release date 1978.
and there are mki and mkii versions.

redbenjoe - 2008-12-16 07:39

hi pedro --
did you win it ?
get it yet ?

you asked about the 8080/m70 comparo -
well it does not have near the power of an m70.

but it does sound like a nice quality box.

and the design is so understated/cool --
so hope you win -
expect to like it

i don't think so, cause:
1. japanese electronics market was pretty "fast", they were selling right after renovation of the model line;
2. there are three hieroglyphs on the page from the second link - written in the red squares, which means: "Now on sale", on sale in 1977.

MK II supposed to be an upgraded (later) version, so if the manual is for both MK I - MKII versions, the registered date could be later as well.

Jens, what is the "manuals bible"?

I asked the seller some questions ... like shape and condition. The price it's ok, but not cheap. It's a "buy it now" aution. So no bid.
The price is about 70 dollars ...

Perhaps it's 3W per channel ... Ok far form the M70 in power an bass performance.

How is it compared with the 838, another wintage BBX of about 3.5W per channel ?

pedro --just a guess (never had an 838) --that the 8080 will not sound as strong/loud as the 838 -

but-- IF that 8080 has very good cosmetics --and since the sound IS VERY NICE --
then $70 is a fair deal (for ebay) Smile

i won mine for about $110 on usa abay a few years ago --

they are not often for sale - -

its XMAS time !!
suggest you hit that BIN and have a nice rare gift for yourself Big Grin

It compares quite well with the 838. I have both. The 838 is a much bigger box. The 838 has better highs and bass, but the 8080 isn't far behind. I actually think the 8080 has a more balanced sound, but could do with more highs. The tweeters put out more midrange sound than the piercing highs you'd expect.

I'm not sure about the Hitachi 8080, but it looks a lot like the TRK-8180E I had, which now belongs to Oldskool69. Here is the thread, with pics, that I started when I was going to sell it: 8180E

I thought that box sounded pretty good when not pushing too much bass. It does not have the power of a JVC M-70 or even a Sharp GF-9191, but worthy in any collection for sure. Sounds closer to the 9191 than the M-70, but probably more in line with the smaller Toshiba Bombeat models. It definitely sounds better than my Toshiba RT-8740S 3-piece, which has tiny woofers.

But if you base your analysis on looks, I think it is pretty much everything that you could want in a mid-sized boomer. Analog VU's, twin antennas, deck in the middle, plenty of chrome & great build quality. Personally, I think these Hitachis are some of the nicest lookers out there.

Hi everyone this is my first post, hope my picture works.
I don't really collect box's I'm into "walkman" but I have a few including this very a nice TRK-8080, I think it sounds very good a bit thin on the bass in open spaces but does go very loud and still sounds good and the radio is excellent.
