...I do not have tapes to test it

tpr - 2008-12-09 09:26

...I do not know how to test the tape
...it worked perfectly when I tested it a year ago
...I do not know anything about this one
...I do not know how to switch it on
...perfect condition, but didn`t test the tape
...must run, but not shure
...

.......auction phrases

kittmaster - 2008-12-09 09:49

sounds about right:

Mint condition....tape doesn't spin

fatdog - 2008-12-09 09:59

Tape doesn't work, but I hear the motor working so all it needs is new belts.

viennasound - 2008-12-09 10:29

I think it has a tapedeck, but i´m not sure! Laugh Out Loud (true)

I can´t get the cassette out of it....

I never used the tapedeck

baby.boomer - 2008-12-09 14:29

"probably just needs a cleaning"

redbenjoe - 2008-12-09 14:53

easy fix

billpc55 - 2008-12-09 14:54

forked tounge tom foolery. no way would i trust anyone who has to qualify the condition of things. like ok drive to a thrift store and buy a tape. it costs fifty cents. you put it in the tape deck. it either works or it dosent.

other words in auctions i am suspicious of is when someone gives too much info for getting rid of it.

my blind daughter needs money for a new set of crutches and the hearing aid batteries have died so i must sell this beautiful unused unit.
it has been working perfectly for the last twenty years but since my hearing has gone i havent been able to hear what is wrong with it.
yeah i hate scammers. i never get caught in any scams. i have seen them all and they are all so obvious.

it works when you hit it a little is another good one.

redbenjoe - 2008-12-09 14:55

has the original AC cord --

but we havent paid our electic utility bill for 2 years -- no way to test it

That one's believable. Most people (except true collectors) do not have any blank tapes lying around. If they do have any tapes, they're pre-recorded and they don't want to record over them.

Is that a 69 Camaro in your av?

skippy1969 - 2008-12-09 15:12

Mint condition, but one antenna is slightly bent and the other is missing it's tip. A replacement one can be found at Radio shack....... Yeah right. Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

Or "probably just needs a little de-ox"

(And then you check their feedback and notice they've sold a ton of other boxes, so why wouldn't they have de-ox'd it themselves? Because they probably already TRIED, and it didn't fix the problem and they don't want to admit it Laugh Out Loud

Radio Shack..... that is one of my favorite ones. Roll Eyes

panasonic.fan - 2008-12-09 15:25

My favorite dance around the elephant is:

"It's 99% functional and perfect with the exception of the cassette".

Seems to me that any boombox with tuner/tape, that the deck won't play tapes, is 50% at best.

billpc55 - 2008-12-09 15:39

the best tho is these words

Hehe, kunstler0162?

He always starts his auction saying:
"Welcome!!

You are bidding on a top class audio device ...
Provides a rarity ...
only one in ebay ...

Your bidding on the legendary ghettoblaster..."

Funny!

peter.griffin - 2008-12-09 17:12

MASSIVE, or HUGE, when it's 15x8x4 boomboxSmile

johnnygto - 2008-12-09 17:34

This thread is cracking me up Laugh Out Loud

I have bought some of these items, some I regret, some I feel like I got a good deal.. Smile

I did get a CFS-500 it FF-RW but plays slow.

One of the best sounding radios I've heard - not mint, but one of my favorite!

If sellers are honest, they will do good!

I have seen many adds that make you think "what is he/she hiding?" Then others are honest and just decribing what circumstance has forced them to sell.....and what is wrong or right with there item... Smile

Point Blank - some people's idea of "good" is your "poor" and others people "poor" might be your "good"

Bid with caution, ask ALOT of questions!

Johnny

Low Low Buy It Now Only $750.00 For This Vintage Piece! Sounds excellent once you get the volume up. Scratchyness disappears after awhile from left speaker and controls. And there is a grinding noise when fast forward is pressed but it works and that means it plays and rewinds too. Maybe you are an expert at these things so I'll leave it up to you to decide. Has some scrathes here or there but don't we all over time and use? Hurry! Don't wait too long or you'll miss out on this one of a kind piece of history! Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

"I'm selling this for a friend"

. Yeah Right,. That way you come back and say , hey, this is a P.O.S., and he says, don't tell me, tell my friend, but he moved to Argentina yesterday.

Also, " I don't have the powercord to test it, but i would assume it works.."

Meaning you should assume it doesnt work because he does have the powercord and he tried it and it doesn't work.

redbenjoe - 2008-12-09 20:30

thats so true jerryjg ---

the 'selling this for a friend' bit -
is the all-time cop-out

im.out.of.hear - 2008-12-09 20:50

Likewise... "I don't have any batteries to test it" which is sometimes followed by, "but the battery compartment looks clean, so it should work."

No batteries anywhere in the house? (Hard to believe you don't even own a flashlight.) Well, then, go out and buy some, you cheapskate!

isolator42 - 2008-12-10 02:21

How about
"has connections for iPod"
when the seller has discovered RCA sockets on the back or side, without checking that they're CD-out only, or only work as line-in to record to the tape deck.
Thankfully, that information is freely avaialble here on s2g...

And as for
"no tape to test" / "no batteries to test", when the seller has sold dozens of boomboxes in the past?
If you are going to sell a product, be halfway professional about it.
When you go to a used car dealer, would you accept "I'm sorry, I don't have any fuel for a test drive, but trust me, it'll be fine"?

On the other hand, canny eBayers can pick up some bargains.
If a boombox is dirty, with scratchy controls, has a broken antenna & needs a new tape deck belt, to most people it's just a mucky old radio-cassette where nothing on it works properly and often it sells very cheap. A couple of hours in the hands of one of us who can repair it & it's clean & 100% working & then if it's a good model it can be worth plenty.

"THIS SUCKA JAMS" (etc, etc) is usually eBayer skilphil, who despite the er, "colourful" descriptions is a fine purveyor of boxes with boom.

For the radio:
"Well I know it works in Japan but I haven't tried in other countries".

Now I'm proceed with the phrase "Maybe will work"
