Cleaning/maintaining/overhauling boomboxes

I am alas still boomboxless! I am however scouring to see what analogue anomalies exist around the place

I thought while I'm doing this asking you good folk of the forum what the best ways to keep a boombox in good condition as far as cleaning and keeping all the mechanisms working and the what not might be a good idea Smile

My tips are simple. Once you've fully cleaned Your new boombox, buy some microfibre cloths to polish it up. These should also be used for regular dusting as they don't contain any dusty particles unlike tissues. Keep all of the surfaces on the boombox clean and free of grease.

When storing the boombox between uses, try to store it in an area with as little dust as you can find. I store my boomboxes in the open air, not in polythene or bubble wrap as some other members do, for fear it might hold moisture within. A plastic cover will give your boombox added protection from scratches etc, but I personally don't use any because I like to see first hand how the boombox is looking while in storage. Plus, I use them too often!

And for keeping it fully operational, just use it often. Don't abuse it, for example don't over-push the volume, just use it normally, operate the tape deck, and turn & change the positions of all the knobs and switches. Buying a can of electrical switch and contact cleaner will prove handy as your boombox might develop scratching noises from the speakers when the knobs are turned. If this happens, a small spray of cleaner inside the knob or switch should completely solve this problem.

And remember to keep it spotlessly clean. It will be fine.
