A couple new finds

skippy1969 - 2008-07-10 14:59

I was out today looking around and I found a couple of nice boomboxes. The first is a real favorite a Sanyo M9935K. I got it for $7.99 and it all works,it has a few scuffs and was pretty dirty but I cleaned it up it is 100% functional. The second is a unit I have wanted for quite a while. It is a rare Aiwa CS550U. Wanted ;Aiwa CS550 thread. I almost lost it when I seen it waiting on the shelf at Goodwill just sitting there for me to buy. The price you may ask? A paltry $5.99!!!!! Eek It is very minty too. I just needed to replace the belts, now it is 100% functional too. It even has the original antenna and power cord. I would say some older person owned it as it was extra clean inside as well. It was cool to see the inside was October 15 1981. It was a pretty good day. Wink

Another couple of classics rescued.Good job Skip! You seem to have recurring good luck. What time of day do you generally check Goodwill?

skippy1969 - 2008-07-10 17:51

Thanks Ira and Fred! Jovie I usually check Goodwill and St Vinnies right away when they open in the morning. Sometimes I drive 45 miles on way for nothing, sometimes I get lucky like today. Nod Yes

Nice finds Skippy. I always like that Sanyo. Pretty good sound for 6D batteries. I have yet to find anything at a goodwill or salvation army. Gets frustrating,so you kind of lose interest in going back there for nothing. Congrats.

redbenjoe - 2008-07-10 19:01

skippy -- was just thinking ....
what are the chances of ever finding a mint box in the wild --which is the RARE ONE you had been looking for --that aiwa 550 was your miracle --
ya think ??

i can ever find boxes at goodwill -- because jared must get up earlier to grab them all ! Smile

transamguy1977 - 2008-07-10 19:36

Goodwill???
Man im moving near you.

skippy1969 - 2008-07-10 20:28

Thanks guys,I was pretty lucky today.I was surprised at finding the Sanyo. But when I saw the Aiwa sitting there on the shelf I thought it was a Toshiba SF120 but when I got closer I knew it was a Aiwa 550. I as shocked to say the least,I never thought I would find one in almost mint condition. Big Grin

That are beautiful radios Skippy1969! Smile

Cool

I like the aiwa the best!

fatdog - 2008-07-11 05:57

Congrats on the finds!! I've always been partial to the M9935K because it was my "first" box way back around '83.

Maybe Wisconsin is getting some of the boombox overflow coming out of Canada. Everybody knows all the good stuff is in Canada. Big Grin

Two great little grabs there... Local finds are the greatest and the feeling you get when you first walk up on something you desire is priceless Smile Nice score

erniejade - 2008-07-11 08:02

Nice finds!! that sanyo was a popular one in the day. how is the 550 compaired to the 600?

skippy1969 - 2008-07-11 11:20

Thanks Ernie and Endo. Ernie I think the CS600 sounds better due to the DSL. The CS550 has no DSL. I like the looks of the CS550 a little better and it is a nice sized unit with a very quality feel and lots of silver and chrome.
