worst day ever!!

ahardb0dy - 2008-07-07 18:32

This afternoon I was in my shed redoing the connection between my 10 meter mobile radio and the power supply on my work bench, I was getting something out of my toolbox and had my back to the front half of my Aiwa cs-880 that was on the work bench behind me, all of a sudden I hear something fall and hit the concrete floor!! I knew what it was but didn't want to look, I turned around and there is the front half of my 880, ( that was basically done waiting to be re-joined to the rear half, new paint on the grill all the pushbuttons cleaned and installed) lying on the floor with about 4 small plastic pieces all over the place!!! I picked it up and both outside corners were broken off and there is a medium sized crack down the right side, I couldn't believe it fell, I crazy glued the parts back together but the damage is definetly noticeable and I have no idea if the crazy glue will even hold up. I was pissed (still am that I left it in a position where it could even fall at all), 25 + years old and the only thing that ever broke was an antenna and now this, oh well if I can get the belts and install them before the end of the month I'll get it together and have it for our meet, may not be the best to look at but it will work. That's what I get for reviving an old hobby (CB & ham radio).

Tomorrow has to be better after today, LOL

im crying right now. Frown why why why!!!!

transamguy1977 - 2008-07-07 19:03

It happens to the best of us. look here if you want to feel better
The good news is anything is fixable with a little perseverance, resources and patience.
Lots of hours of work to get ruined by a mistake??
I dont think so!!!
I will hopefully have this one ready for the meet.
And you will have yours ready too!!!

ahardb0dy - 2008-07-07 19:10

Thanks, that's what I was thinking a little filler here and there some reinforcing on the inside, primer, paint,TIME!! etc will be as good as new, Sorry to see what happened to your restoration, I read your post when it happened. In your post the rear looks silver in some pics than at the end it looks almost brown, what's up with that? if it is silver what silver did you use? I picked up a can of aluminum rustoleum the other day but it is way to shiny, today I bought a can that says matte nickel it looks better but still not a perfect match.

transamguy1977 - 2008-07-07 19:18

My Telefunken is a champagne color.
I brought a speaker in the auto parts store to find the closest match paint and it is almost dead on.
Maybe you should bring your part in to match it.
There are so many shades of silver , it is mind boggling .
the silver will always be a little brighter than the original

Wow that sucks but it will probably only sting for a little while. Wink

TMGuy is right, it can be fixed. He should know since he has performed some fantastic overhauls of old boxes. Nod Yes

asdexander - 2008-07-08 04:27

Well, you have to look at it from a positive point of view. Now that something bad has happened to you (Something very bad), you'll have something good happen to you.

hopefully..

Karma's a *****.

I'm really sad to read that, ahardb0dy. Frown I can understand how you must feel, it's survived in great condition for 25 years and all of a sudden this happens to it. It makes you feel empty, and angry at the same time. It happened to me with a Sharp GF-5959 box. It made me feel sick. I hope you can fix it to look as good as new again! Good luck!! Smile
